A man has been charged following a pursuit in Riverina region last week.

About 3.40pm on Friday 25 September 2026, officers attached to Murrumbidgee Police District attempted to stop a car on the Sturt Highway, Hay.

When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.

During the pursuit, police allege the driver threw drink cans out of the window.

Police followed the vehicle onto a dirt road, where the pursuit was terminated before the car crashed into a fence, allegedly causing damage to it.

The driver – a 22-year-old man – was arrested at the scene and police seized a knife, allegedly belonging to the man, from inside the car.

He was taken to Griffith Police Station where he was charged with:

- Police pursuit - not stop - drive recklessly,
- Throw missile at police officer executing duty no actual bodily harm,
- Intentionally throw object at vehicle/vessel risk safety,
- Destroy or damage property more than $2000 and less than $5000, and
- Custody of knife in public place.

The man was refused bail to appear at Bail Division Court 5 on Saturday 26 September 2026, where he was formally refused bail to appear at Griffith Local Court on Wednesday 7 October 2026.

A man has been charged after allegedly carrying a knife in a public place in the state’s south.

About 5.20pm yesterday (Thursday 24 September 2026), police were called to Jondaryan Avenue, Griffith, following reports an off-duty police officer had observed a man carrying a large knife in the street.

On arrival, officers attached to Murrumbidgee Police District located a 29-year-old man in a car park on Jondaryan Avenue.

When police approached the man, he allegedly put down a knife before running from police.

He was arrested following a short foot pursuit and was taken to Griffith Police Station where he was charged with hinder or resist police officer in the ex*****on of duty, custody of knife in a public place, and use knife in public place – cause person to fear for safety.

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Local Court 5 today (Friday 25 September 2026), where he was formally refused bail to appear before Griffith Local Court on Wednesday 30 September 2026.

A man moving sheep has died after the motorbike he was riding was hit by a truck on the Newell Highway between Forbes and West Wyalong today.

Emergency services were called to the highway at Wirrinya early this afternoon after a prime mover collided with the motorbike.

The rider, a man believed to be in his 60s, was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.

He has yet to be formally identified.

The truck driver, a man aged in his 20s, was uninjured and has been taken to West Wyalong hospital for mandatory testing.

The highway was closed and diversions put in place.

Police investigations are continuing.
