Anastasia Naicker was outgoing, happy, and confident growing up in Queensland, a twin with a ready-made best friend and a primary school she loved. Then came Year 9, moving interstate comes with its usual challenges for a Year 9 student, but nobody expected this for 15 year old Anastasia.

Anastasia’s old friend group had made a group chat; her phone lit up with messages of names, slogans, and cruelty. She opened a social media app to find a photo from their last day together, with her face photoshopped out. The caption read: “Life’s so much better without you.”

“That broke me,” she says. “Tore me into like a million pieces.”

Mary's House was built by the community, for the community, it was founded in 2015 by a dedicated group of concerned citizens from Sydney’s northern suburbs. Members of the clergy, local parishes and in particular Our Lady of the Way Parish, health authorities, community and business leaders, philanthropists volunteering their time, expertise, resources and ultimately funding the outcome Mary’s House – with the focus of safety for women and their children, victim- survivors of domestic and family violence and abuse front of mind.

Forever Remembered: Ku-ring-gai Council Unveils Park Bench Plaque Tribute to Dr Faith Bandler.

Ku-ring-gai Council has paid tribute to the late Dr Faith Bandler, with a plaque unveiling in Turramurra during National Reconciliation Week.

A plaque has been installed in her honour on a park bench at Boyds Orchard Park in Turramurra, near her former home.

Dr Bandler dedicated her life to promoting the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, changing peoples’ hearts and minds. She was at the forefront of the decade-long campaign leading up to the historic 1967 Referendum.

Australia Post is calling on community groups across New South Wales to apply for its 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦, 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐩 𝐭𝐨 $𝟏𝟎,𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.

This year, Australia Post has also ringfenced an additional $250,000 specifically to help communities recover, reconnect, and build long-term resilience following natural disasters.

Last year, 31 grassroots organisations across NSW shared in over $250,000 of funding - including 16 groups supporting disaster-impacted areas. Since launching in 2019, the national program has awarded more than 530 grants.

NSW community groups can apply for up to $10,000 in Australia Post Community Grants for mental health and disaster recovery. Applications close 6 July 2026.

For over four decades, the NSW Secondary Schools Concerto Competition has served as a vital launching pad for Australia’s finest musical minds. On Sunday 28 June, Ku-ring-gai Philharmonic Orchestra (KPO) will host the highly anticipated 2026 Finals Concert at The Concourse, Chatswood, shining a spotlight on six remarkable young instrumentalists.

Founded by visionary Ku-ring-gai string teachers, the late Barbara Cran and the late Barbara Robinson, the competition began in 1984 with a simple but profound mission: to give young musicians the invaluable opportunity to perform as soloists alongside a full orchestra. Out of a capped pool of 100 eager applicants from across NSW and the ACT, just six finalists have earned the coveted opportunity to compete in this year’s final round.

The competition’s track record speaks for itself. Over its 42-year history, past participants have successfully secured scholarships to elite global institutions like the Juilliard School, the Curtis Institute of Music, and the Royal Academy of Music. Alumni such as Alexander Gavrylyuk, Alexandra Osborne, Natalie Chee, Hyung Suk Bae, and Anna da Silva Chen have gone on to carve out distinguished national and international careers.

This year’s audience will be treated to a diverse and demanding program. The 2026 finalists are:

This year’s adjudicators, Dimity Hall and Joshua Batty, face the unenviable task of selecting the winners, while KPO’s Artistic Director Paul Terracini will command the podium to guide the orchestra through these complex works.
