A HOUSE ON FIRE
by Maury Jackson, Nathan Brown
HOW ADVENTIST FAITH RESPONDS TO RACE AND RACISM.
A House on Fire grew out of a conversation. It was prompted by many of the events of the past 10 years, which reached a crescendo in mid-2020 with the “Black Lives Matter” protests around the world, but racism as we know it in the modern world has a history that stretches back more than 500 years. In this instance, the conversation was carried forward by the shared conviction that Adventist faith has important and meaningful things to say and resources to offer if we turn our attention more to the world around us.
Of course, this has implications for our church, but also offers the insights of our faith as a resource for the important work of antiracism.
There is more to say— and to do but we believe A House on Fire is an important starting point or a valuable tool for those who are already doing this work.
Like all good conversations, there are ideas that challenge us and a conversation on race and racism is important enough that it should make us uncomfortable. So we hope you will join the conversations and think about how we can do better on this topic.
