Have a squiz at this beauty – a fire engine built on a Dodge chassis, knocked together right in Warracknabeal back in the day.

Turns out a bunch of ‘em were made there under contract for the CFA in the early 1900s. Bit of old-school engineering pride right there!

Move over, Formula 1 – Warracknabeal’s newest street racer just got busted cruising around in his pimped-out go-kart (emphasis on the go, because registration and licenses were a definite no!).

Cops pulled over the MacGyver wannabe earlier this month after spotting his ahem “custom ride” (read: motorised death trap) puttering down Scott Street.

• Ride status: Impounded (RIP, $1,789.55 down the drain)
• Driver credentials: Literally “trust me, bro”
• Next stop: Court, where he’ll explain why Backyard Engineers Weekly isn’t a legal driver’s manual.

The cheeky fella now faces charges of unlicensed driving and extreme optimism. Community reaction? “Dude really thought this was Mario Kart,” laughed one local. “Hope he brought his coins for the impound lot!”

In some sad news, Warracknabeal's Creekside Hotel will close at the end of the year as a result of unwarranted and unwanted stress following rumours and commentary within the town. 🍺

Folks,

There is no easy way to say this, but we will be closing The Creekside Hotel as of the 1st of January 2025.

Moving to front of house duties has caused a great deal of unwarranted and unwanted stress, and we are aware that we are the subject of rumours and commentary within the town. We have not, until this message, wanted to comment as we felt that we should focus on the business.

When we went into this business it was in a 50/50 partnership with other people as they had experience in the hotel industry, we were only supposed to be in the background as business support. Things declined while they were here, and we were way behind in our sales and accumulated a large amount of unpaid debt due to their overspending and/or developing debt we were unaware of until we ended the partnership.

We invested a chunk of personal money in the hope we could trade out of the debt and keep the doors open. But the economy slowed, people stopped spending, things went up, and we could not catch up. Now we are going the way of many restaurants/hotels.

New Year’s Eve will be our last day and as of 1st January 2025 we will be closed permanently.

While this is not how we saw the future going, we have enjoyed this short time owning The Creekside and we are thankful to those who supported us along the way.

All the best for your future.
