🌱The gap between the promises you make in your marketing and the reality of your customers’ experience is where disappointment is most likely to occur🌱

I founded Mac&Ernie to provide social media training, strategic marketing and an understanding of why customer experience matters - to small businesses and community organisations throughout Gippsland and regional areas of Australia. There is noth

ing I love more than providing my clients with ā€˜oh wow!’ moments; those times when you learn something new, and immediately wonder how your business ever lived without it. That happens a lot because even though social media and digital marketing has been around for a long time it's still very new to many business owners - especially because it changes so often! With over 25 years of marketing and advertising experience, a stack of qualifications and a proven track record of putting social media and marketing to work for business, I am well placed to help you navigate the sometimes-confusing world of digital and social marketing. My workshops, one on one sessions and strategic marketing advice provide practical, accessible and customised advice that you can act on immediately. I also create custom workshops for larger businesses wanting to upskill staff or start a social media or marketing strategy from scratch. At the moment, Mac&Ernie only operates 'physically' in Gippsland and the eastern suburbs of Melbourne but, thanks to the magic of technology I can be anywhere. If you follow me on social media, you'll know I'm a chronic oversharer of chunky actionable tips and you can find them on my Instagram and Facebook profiles or by listening to my podcast - Small Town Business - via your favourite app or at www.smalltownbusinesspodcast.au

My eyes have been too tired to read lately, so I’ve been listening to Grounded Success as an audio book, so it was a bit surreal hearing reading in real life tonight šŸ˜There’s something really lovely about being ā€˜read to’ and it’s not often you actually meet the narrator of the book you’ve had in your ears.

Kemi thank you for sharing time with us tonight and thank you for putting on another amazing event. I loved meeting new friends and spending time with women I’ve known for a long time.

I’ll be thinking about this time in my life differently now.

Grab this book. It’s wonderful. It’s kind and thoughtful and will help you find a little bit of peace in this world gone mad.

šŸ”” Instagram finally launched an iPad app. Honestly, I never thought it would happen, but here we are after 15 years of waiting…

iPad users can now head to the App Store and grab the new Instagram for iPad App.

I’m interested to see the resolution of the images and videos, given we are all creating for the small screen šŸ¤”

Yesterday I recorded a chat with for her and it was a great wholesome discussion about ways to use social media effectively but also sustainably, without burning yourself out or leaving too much on the table.

You have to join the Academy to hear it, but I’d like to reiterate one thing I’ve said here before.

šŸ‘‰ Love the one you’re with*

Swipe across to see why your existing clients, customers and followers are central to your social media (and business success).

If you’re always looking for who is next, you’ll miss out on deepening the connections you have right there in front of you. Those connections will help lead you to new opportunities.

As a teen parent and someone who works daily in the social media space, I’m a little invested in this proposed social media ban. Are you?

One thing is certain, it’s controversial. One positive outcome is already in play and that is parents are questioning it.

IMO too many parents don’t even think twice about letting their kids have accounts and certainly don’t monitor their use. Maybe just the idea of the ban will open some minds and start some conversations.

This article demonstrates just how difficult it’s going to be to actually enforce the laws. I’m extremely keen to see how they will do it without invasive methods.

ā€œAfter nearly six months of testing, the Age Assurance Technology Trial had proven that age-checking in Australia ā€œcan be done in Australia and can be private, robust and effectiveā€, the media release said. The proof for this claim — the test results — wasn’t shared publicly.ā€ - Crikey

Anyway…time will tell.

Expert participants had high expectations for the government’s $6.5 million Age Assurance Technology trial. Now, some have quit their advisory roles and others are questioning how seriously to take its results.

Back again talking about the Instagram Repost functionality because I’ve had a lot of questions and chats over the weekend—winning the Q&A game is ā€œwhy should I use it?ā€

Swipe across for my thoughts but pay attention to the second slide šŸ˜‰

If you’re a service-based business or community organisation looking to stretch your reach beyond your existing followers, this new function could be very useful šŸ‘‡

When you’re coming up with content ideas, keep circling back to ā€œwhy would someone share this?ā€ and if you can’t think of a reason, try again. Sharing is such a powerful way to get discovered. Sharing is how people communicate.

It’s easy to cheer for someone else’s wins—sharing their excitement, hyping them up, and making sure they know how amazing they are. But when it comes to our own achievements? That can feel…awkward.

Why is it so hard to celebrate ourselves? Maybe it feels like bragging, or we downplay what we’ve done because it ā€œwasn’t that big a deal.ā€

But here’s the thing: if you’d celebrate a friend for it, why not give yourself the same kindness?

Here’s the other thing: algorithms looove it when you are celebrating and attracting positive comments.

So you should do it more! Here’s some thought-starters:

1ļøāƒ£ Reframe it: Think of it as sharing, not bragging. ā€œI’m proud of this and wanted to put it out there!ā€ feels different from ā€œLook how great I am.ā€

2ļøāƒ£ Add gratitude: Acknowledging the journey makes it feel more grounded. ā€œI’m so grateful for the hard work or the people that got me here.ā€

3ļøāƒ£ Keep it simple: You don’t need a speech. ā€œThis happened, and I’m really proudā€ is enough.

Remember, celebrating your own win doesn’t take away from someone else’s. There’s enough light for everyone to shine.

How do YOU get past the awkwardness of sharing your achievements? Or is it something you’re still working on? Feel free to give yourself a little shout out in the comments or a nudge to someone you know who has been holding onto some good news ā¤ļø

šŸ’›I love love. Especially when I hear small businesses talk about their loyal customers and how they have supported their business over the years 🄰

You don’t get loyal customers by accident though. Loyalty is like a marriage–a connection made after a courtship. What you do in that courtship period can make a huge difference to your future together.

So what is love? It’s not double-tapping on a post (though please go ahead, I could use the dopamine hit šŸ˜‰). Genuine customer love translates into brand or business loyalty and referrals–both things that bring regular income into your business.

šŸ‘‰Swipe across to find out how to speak your customers’ love language and start working on your own ideas because this is not a tip, rather a thought-starter. Remember, I’m just a message away for a little bit of help if you need it 🫶Erika
