A late-night drive in Wedderburn has ended in tragedy, with a man losing his life in a horrific crash that’s left a community shaken.

Police are investigating after a car crashed into a tree on Wedderburn-Boort Road, near Corbys Lane, on Thursday night. The vehicle is believed to have then rolled before catching fire.

It wasn’t discovered until just after 11pm, when a passer-by came across the scene – the kind of moment that sticks with you.

The driver – a man who was not formally identified as of yesterday morning – tragically died at the scene.

There are still plenty of unanswered questions about exactly what led up to it, and investigators are now working to piece together those final moments.

For now, it’s another life gone far too soon – and another family dealing with the kind of phone call no one ever wants to get.

Our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and everyone who knew him. 💔

Wedderburn College has wrapped up a successful return to the Energy Breakthrough, marking the first time in 11 years the school has fielded a team! 🏫

Students completed a long and demanding night of racing, with staff praising their effort, endurance, and teamwork! 👏🏻

The school extended its thanks to Kylie for catering across the weekend, ensuring students and staff were well-fed! 😋

Appreciation was also given to Toni, Gabby, Mr Fowles and the Finch family for assisting with packing up and helping source any forgotten items, as well as to Adele for driving the bus back to Wedderburn! 🚌

Staff also acknowledged the families and supporters who came along to encourage the students, and the team of teachers who stayed onsite and coordinated the school’s participation! 🙏🏻

A strong effort from everyone involved and a proud moment for the college! 💪🏻

Around 60 locals gathered in Wedderburn this morning for an impromptu ANZAC Day dawn service after the official one was controversially cancelled due to the threat of rain.

Many felt strongly that a bit of rain shouldn’t stop remembrance. As one attendee put it, “Our diggers didn’t get to stay dry, they served in all conditions. Turning up today was the least we could do.”

A powerful, grassroots show of respect from a town that remembers what matters. 🌹

The Wedderburn & Korong Vale RSL has announced that tomorrow’s Dawn Service has been cancelled due to a forecast of rain. A lot of locals are gutted, leaving many shaking their heads, pointing out the obvious: they didn’t stop the war because it rained.

Our diggers served in mud, blood, and worse, without the luxury of dodging a bit of wet weather. They stood tall in trenches, soaked to the bone, sacrificing their time, comfort, and far too often their lives. A bit of drizzle shouldn’t be enough to cancel the chance to honour that.
