Farmer & The Owl Record Label / Publishing Farmer & The Owl is a record label based in Wollongong, Australia. The publishing side of this is a joint venture with Gaga Music.

It was originally established with the intention to help the wealth of talent from our local area, release their music to a wider audience. The label’s first signing was Hockey Dad, a Windang based duo who released their debut EP in November 2014, and have followed it up with two widely acclaimed albums ‘Boronia’, and ‘Blend Inn’. The label has grown as more local artists have joined the roster, including The Pinheads, Totally Unicorn, TEES and Tropical Strength, with Bec Sandridge’s debut EP ‘In The Fog’ also being released via F&O. In May 2019, Bad//Dreems joined the Farmer and the Owl family, marking the first non-local artist to be signed. The Adelaide five piece released their third album, ‘Doomsday Ballet’, in October. Farmer & The Owl has now grown into a full label operation, with global partner BMG coming on board in late 2019 to assist in taking our artists to an international market. Though F&O has developed, our intention remains the same - to assist the artists that surround us, (now local & beyond), release their music to a wider audience. We also run the annual Farmer & The Owl Festival, with each line-up being co-curated by the label family. The next edition will be held on February 29, 2020 at McCabe Park in Wollongong, and features Hot Chip, Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats, Sleaford Mods, Weyes Blood, The Murlocs, Alex Cameron, Miss June, Mom Jeans & many more. Previous additions to the lineup have included Beach House, Deafhaven, Joyce Manor, Snail Mail & others. As well as the label and festival, we have a DJ collective, Sultans Of Spin, who play festivals, gigs and events around our hometown and beyond. We also run a company called FO PAS, which handles publishing and sponsorship for a range of artists. Farmer & The Owl is operated by Ben Tillman (Yours & Owls partner) and Jeb Taylor (Music Farmers co-owner) while FO PAS is operated by Adam Smith (Yours & Owls partner) along with Ben & Jeb. Yours & Owls is a promoter of live music in the Illawarra and also runs an annual festival over the October long weekend in Wollongong. www.yoursandowls.com.au

Fresh distro releases

Out today via Evil Tone Records is the second album from The Strike Outs. Grab it online at farmerandtheowl.com and it’s making it’s way to indie stores over the next week. You can also get it at their upcoming shows and it is streaming everywhere now.

Just announced is the new six track EP from Sesame Girl vinyl via Music Farmers. Pre orders for that one are up now, and you’ll be able to get it at stores around the country on August 7th.

And a reminder about the Nitocris reissue out in September. There are only 15 copies of the ocean swirl version remaining, you can grab that one at farmrandtheowl.com. The aquamarine and black versions will be in stores around the country in September.

To celebrate the bands one off reunion show in October (which has already sold out), we’re excited to present a vinyl pressing of the bands self-titled album from 2000. Twenty tracks across two records in a gatefold sleeve.

The Ocean Swirl variant is limited to 150 copies, 50 were in show ticket bundles and have sold out, there are 100 available online to pre ordr at our web site and they are already selling quick - https://farmerandtheowl.com/products/nitocris

There will be 150 Aquamarine retail exclusive copies (along with a standard black version) available at stores around the country including Red Eye, Utopia, Music Farmers, Landspeed, Hiss & Crackle, Badlands, Coco Bananas and more will be added leading up to release day.

Nitocris were an important and much-loved band on the Australian music scene through the nineties. Forming in high school and quickly becoming a staple on the live scene, the band played festivals such as Big Day Out, Alternative Nation and Homebake, were regulars on Triple J radio and Recovery TV, and even scored themselves an ARIA nomination.

The album was originally released via Phantom Records, thanks to Seb for helping make this happen, as well as Scott B for initially helping to get this release rolling.
