WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT...
This weekend is an important one for Late Models in Western Australia as the 2025/26 Pro Dirt Series officially kicks off at the Ellenbrook Speedway.
It is however also important to stop and recognise what this weekend's Ray Tulk Memorial is also about.
Since Late Models inception in 1997, there have been many people who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make the division what it is today.
One of those early pioneers was Ray Tulk.
Ray was a tireless worker for the Speedway, involved in a number of roles across several divisions. Upon the inception of the new Late Model division, Ray became the inaugural Treasurer of the LMRWA, from 1997 to 2002 and would continue to dedicate himself to the cause for many years.
Ray was also honoured to be a Life Member of the Ellenbrook Speedway, so on his passing it was only fitting that a race be created in his honour.
Starting its life in 2004 as a stand alone event, it is now the traditional series opener and a must win event, with every racer striving to get their name on the trophy.
The competition has always been tough, with just two names on the trophy in the last five years, and just six in the event's history, meaning this one is much sought after.
So this weekend, although the Pro Dirt Series takes centre stage, it is also important that we take a moment to pay tribute to one of those who dedicated everything they had to our sport.
Ray Tulk.
