$30 market place find! ๐๐๐ป
This is how I up cycled it:
I started off by cleaning the piece with vinegar & water 50/50 in a spray bottle to remove any dirt or dust.
I then used a carbide scraper to scrape the exisiting stain off the top of the piece as it was very thick.
I then tried using oven cleaner to remove the remaining stain on the piece but it wasnโt working very well. So I tried acetone, which also didnโt work very well ๐
So I used an electric sander to sand the entire piece down to its raw form.
For the legs I hand sanded them & used a wire brush to get into the detailing of the legs but I wasnโt too fused that I couldnโt remove all of it as I liked the contrast of the darker stain embedded in the details to make it stand out more and give that rustic feel that I was after.
Once everything was fully sanded down back to raw timber I noticed the top & bottom shelf were oak & the legs were pine.
Oak timber is a lot cooler than pine.
Pine timber can look very warm and throw off a lot of orange.
So to counteract the warm tone I decided to white wash the piece.
I have never white washed before, but after watching a few tutorials on Instagram I thought stuff it Iโll give it a go lol!
So I added white ceiling paint that I had in my garage into some water, brushed it on the piece & wiped with a clean rag while I went.
I did 1 coat on the top and bottom shelf, then I did about 2-3 coats on the legs & draws.
Once it was dry I added back on the original handles. Theyโre very rustic looking, I did try to clean them up but it didnโt work so I decided to roll with it lol!
And there you go โบ๏ธ It was pretty easy! It took me about 2 days. If you want to give it ago I absolutely would ๐๐ป
