Police from the Hume Police District are investigating an incident involving property damage and assault that occurred at a motel in a Young on the evening of Wednesday, 16 July 2025.
At approximately 6:20pm, a female staff member was working alone in the office of the establishment when an unknown male approached and knocked on the locked office door. The staff member opened the door slightly to speak with the man, who quickly became verbally aggressive. Alarmed, she closed the door and retreated to a safer area.
Shortly after, the staff member heard a loud noise and returned to find the bottom glass panel of the office door smashed, with glass scattered inside. She exited the premises to confront the man and took a photo of him. The man, who was holding a pair of headphones, then struck her on the head with the object, causing minor pain.
Two witnesses observed the assault and police were contacted immediately. Officers attended the scene and are now seeking to identify and locate a man described as Caucasian appearance, approx. 5'6, short/buzzed hair with receding hairline and goatee, wearing black hoodie, black tack pants and navy-blue Asics shoes.
Inspector Nick Wiles of the Hume Police District stated:
“We’ve released an image of a person we wish to identify in relation to this incident. This was a distressing experience for the victim, and we’re urging anyone who recognises the individual or has information to come forward and assist police.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact Young Police Station or the Police Assistance Line on 131 444 or report online at www.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.

IT'S THE 1ST OF APRIL!!! Thanks for joining the fun of April Fools' Day this morning!... An all electric future for Australia demands vast amounts of so called rare earth minerals, particularly lithium. A 2023 research report has found elevated lithium densities in parts of our region. Last month multiple mining licences were granted to Indonesian based mining company Archipelago Equatorial Minerals to build mines on 3 sites from July with the first deposits of lithium expected to be extracted by early 2027. The sites granted approval include 1750 hectares of Weddin Mountains National Park, 650 hectares SW of Stockinbingal and 1200 hectares in Ulandra Nature Reserve. AEM spokesperson Tini Bintang said mine construction will employ 3800 over 2 years with more than 12500 full time and 4500 casual mine personnel required over the estimated 25 year life of the mines. Tune in to the Breakfast Crunch to find out more...
