To make sure all the local and national winter sports gets the coverage it deserves we have moved The RV Show to Sunday 12.00pm to 1.00pm. Saturday morning sport gets a full two hours from 9.00am with the very sporty James C.

Good Morning Country comes to town, with Kevin Walsh doing a sterling job of promoting The Hilltops. Interviews with our mayor Brian Ingham, our visitors information marketing representative and acknowledging the Young Tourist Park and their group of caravan parks as a sponsor of the visit. Our own 2YYY GMC team member Helen is on air tomorrow from 5-9 am broadcasting to 128 stations across Australia and via the Community Radio Network to the internet. From the 19th of March GMC will be part of the weekly lineup of great shows on 2YYY 92.3FM. Extra people are needed on the 2YYY roster for reception duties on weekday mornings. An advertising co-ordinator role will require another volunteer to fill it, and it’s an important part of our business. And as always, we would like to have more people on our roster of on-air volunteers, particularly for the daily request program. It is currently just a handful of dedicated people. Community radio has many roles that are part of us providing a unique community service. The times are changing, so join us and be part of the change. Good Morning Country with Kevin (Walshie) Walsh is coming to 2YYY 92.3FM on Monday the 10th of March to the 13th of March, with Kevin broadcasting on the 10-11th of March and Helen (2YYY) on the 12-13th of March. And after that every Tuesday morning 5-9am with our one and only Helen behind the microphone. Come into the station at 10.30 am on Tuesday the 11th of March for a meet and greet morning tea. Maybe even get an autograph from the Good Morning Country presenters. See you there.

Just a heads up for listeners in our community that the reception hours for 2YYY 92.3FM Community Radio are weekdays from 9.00am to 12.00pm. Outside those hours any phone calls go to voice mail, and when you leave your contact details as you should, there will be a delay in getting a return call. Anonymous voice messages are deleted as are messages that are abusive or belittling our volunteers. Alternatively email us at [email protected]

2YYY 92.3 FM your local community radio station has needed to switch to The Community Radio Network particularly later in the day or early evening, more often than we would like simply due to not having enough volunteers to cover all our shifts. You may even have heard network programs you do not like, and we have no control over what is broadcast from the network. The only way to avoid this is for you to volunteer as a on air presenter. 2YYY 92.3 FM Community Radio currently has only seventeen on air presenters. That’s a very small roster, out of the population of Young which is just over ten thousand people. Some of these people do multiple shifts or do work behind the scene as well. All give up their time to entertain and inform the community as volunteers. 2YYY 92.3 has been on air for twenty years and is evolving as the community changes, and as required by our governing bodies who’s rules we operate under. Community radio is unique as it reflects the community’s expectations, and you can be part of that. The commercial stations don’t give you the opportunity. Our future is in your hands, so please consider joining us as an on air presenter, and do it! To the good citizens of The Hilltops, I am putting forward an appeal to commit to the future of local community radio. 2YYY 92.3FM has been in existence for twenty years, operated by a quite small group of volunteers, with no paid staff. We operate seven days a week for as many hours as we have presenters to bring you live radio. That is the commitment 2YYY makes to the community. Rural community radio stations operate under increasing pressures. Volunteers aging, local businesses continuing to use social media to advertise and increasing operating costs from a decreasing income stream, as we have to compete with commercial radio for income. We need community minded people of all ages to join us as volunteer and members. Particularly to become on air presenters. Local business people, please don’t be bystanders and let community radio fade away. Are you willing to support us financially by advertising with us? Our rates are cheaper than you think and are a fraction of commercial radio. Remember that we support every not-for-profit community group to get their news and messages out at no cost to them.
