Aruba Airport Authority and Aruba Tourism Authority Celebrates 20 Years of JetBlue’s New York to Aruba Service

JetBlue and its Aruba partners mark the milestone with celebrations today at airports in New York and Aruba

ORANJESTAD – Aruba Airport Authority N.V. (AAA), together with JetBlue and the Aruba Tourism Authority (A.T.A.), are celebrating the 20th anniversary of JetBlue's nonstop
service between New York and Aruba, recognizing the airline's contributions to the island's air connectivity and tourism industry.

JetBlue first launched service to Aruba on September 15, 2006, with a nonstop flight from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Queen Beatrix International Airport (AUA). What began with this inaugural route has grown into an important air connection, strengthening ties between Aruba and one of its key visitor market while offering travelers greater choice when planning their journeys to and from the island.

Today, JetBlue connects Aruba with New York (JFK), Boston (BOS) and Fort Lauderdale (FLL), continuing its role as an important airline partner for the destination. The airline’s service has supported Aruba’s tourism economy by providing convenient travel options for visitors and local residents, while offering connections to additional destinations across JetBlue’s growing network.

To mark the anniversary, AAA hosted a celebration with JetBlue's local team at Queen Beatrix International Airport on the morning of October 15 at the check-in arrival hall. Team members were thanked for their dedication and contribution to JetBlue's Aruba operation with a celebratory cake, snacks and commemorative cookies. Passengers departing Aruba on JetBlue flights that day also received a branded commemorative item as a gesture of appreciation for their loyalty.

In New York, A.T.A. team members joined JetBlue at JFK to celebrate the anniversary alongside the airline's team and passengers traveling to Aruba. As part of the celebration, the A.T.A. team connected with passengers at the terminal, celebrating JetBlue’s continued connection to the island while inviting travelers to take the Aruba Promise before boarding. By taking the promise, travelers pledged their commitment to enjoy Aruba responsibly and help preserve the island’s natural beauty, culture and welcoming spirit for generations to come.

The celebrations in Aruba and New York recognized not only the anniversary of the route, but also the crew members, partners and passengers who have helped sustain the connection for two decades. The milestone underscores the shared commitment of AAA, JetBlue and A.T.A. to reliable connectivity, a welcoming passenger experience and the continued success of Aruba as a leading Caribbean destination.

As JetBlue enters its second decade of service to Aruba, AAA and the A.T.A. look forward to continuing the collaboration and to create positive travel experiences for passengers arriving at and departing from Queen Beatrix International Airport.

Remember that old Aruban house I posted recently that you all loved so much? Well, recently I decided to take my appreciation for our traditional cas di cunucu to a whole new level... by building one in miniature! 🏠✨
I’ve never made a diorama in my life. One day, after randomly watching a YouTube video (which wasn’t even about Aruban houses!), I thought: Why not give this a try?
The whole process turned out to be so much fun—especially hunting all around Aruba to find the right materials to bring the details to life. I think I might have just stumbled upon a new hobby (and maybe a hidden talent? 🎨🤷‍♂️).

🏡 The Historic Cunucu House at Arikok, Aruba

Hidden in the rugged countryside of Aruba, this traditional cunucu house is a beautiful reminder of the island’s rural past. 🇦🇼

Built in a simple style with thick white walls, small windows, and a distinctive curved roofline, houses like this reflect how people once lived in Aruba’s countryside, known locally as the cunucu.

Life in the cunucu was very different from the Aruba we see today, with its luxury resorts, busy beaches, and modern lifestyle. Families lived closer to the land, adapting to the island’s dry climate and challenging environment.

Located in the area of Cunucu Arikok, this house offers a glimpse into a quieter, more traditional side of Aruba that many visitors never get to experience.

Sometimes, discovering the real Aruba means stepping away from the beaches and exploring the stories hidden in its countryside. 🌵☀️

Aruba Airport Authority Signs New Ground Handling Concession Agreements

ORANJESTAD - Aruba Airport Authority N.V. (AAA), operator of Aeropuerto Internacional Reina Beatrix, has signed new Ground Handling Concession Agreements with its two Ground Handling Service Providers, Aviation Ground Services N.V. dba Swissport (AGS) and General Air Services Inc. (GenAir), establishing an updated and largely standardized framework for the provision of ground handling services at Aruba Airport.

Following a comprehensive review of the existing ground handling arrangements at ArubaAirport, AAA elected to continue its partnerships with its two established Ground Handling
Service Providers rather than initiate a new selection process. The renewal process provided the opportunity to build on these longstanding relationships while introducing an updated and largely standardized contractual framework aligned with the airport's current and future operational requirements.
The new agreements are the result of an extensive consultation and negotiation process between AAA and both ground handling partners and reflect the continued development of
the airport's operational, safety, security, service quality and sustainability requirements.

Ground handling is an essential component of airport operations, encompassing a wide range of activities that support airlines and their passengers before and after each flight. The new agreements therefore place particular emphasis on maintaining high operational and safety standards, adequately trained and qualified personnel, appropriate investment and maintenance of Ground Service Equipment (GSE), service-level performance, and
compliance with applicable airport and regulatory requirements.
The agreements also look ahead to the future development of Aruba Airport. Both Ground Handling Service Providers have committed to GSE renewal and investment plans, including the progressive transition toward lower-emission and electric equipment. AAA, in turn, will continue to consider the supporting airport infrastructure required for this transition as part of its broader infrastructure development and sustainability objectives.

Jonny Andersen, Chief Executive Officer of Aruba Airport Authority N.V., stated: “Our decision to continue with our existing ground handling partners recognizes the experience,
operational knowledge and established relationships that both organizations have built at Aruba Airport. At the same time, renewal could not simply mean continuing under the
same conditions. We have used this opportunity to establish an updated framework with clear expectations around safety, security, service quality, investment and sustainability as we prepare the airport for the years ahead.”

The new framework also reinforces AAA's expectations regarding service performance and operational resilience. Through common standards and requirements, AAA aims to ensure that airlines operating at Aruba Airport can rely on ground handling services that support the airport's continued growth while maintaining the levels of safety, security, reliability and quality expected across the airport community.

equipment, and operations while contributing to the future development of Aruba’s aviation sector.”

The signing of the agreements further reinforces the longstanding collaboration between AAA and its ground handling partners and reflects a shared commitment to the safe and sustainable development of Aruba's aviation sector. Andersen added: “As our airport continues to evolve, the organizations operating within it
must evolve with us. These agreements are not only about continuing our partnerships; they are about ensuring that we collectively remain prepared for the operational demands
and standards of the future.” The new Ground Handling Concession Agreements will take effect on January 1, 2027, and will govern the provision of ground handling services by both operators.
