If there’s one thing to remember this World AIDS Day, let it be U=U 🛑
Long gone are the days when being diagnosed with HIV was a death sentence.
Because the more educated we all are about the facts, the closer we will come to reaching a point of zero new transmissions.
U=U is when you have an undetectable viral load, i.e. the HIV virus is undetectable in your system.
Being undetectable means you then cannot transmit HIV to another individual, and so are untransmittable.
World AIDS Day, designated on 1 December every year since 1988, is an international day dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection and mourning those who have died of the disease. The acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is a life-threatening condition caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The HIV virus attacks the immune system of the patient and reduces its resistance to other diseases. Government and health officials, non-governmental organizations, and individuals around the world observe the day, often with education on AIDS prevention and control.
Let’s fight stigma with facts.
Let’s stand with those living with HIV.
Let’s remember the lives lost — and protect the lives still to come.
Educate. Support. Advocate.
