Genetics & Applications (G&A) is the official journal of the Institute for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, University of Sarajevo.

It is envisaged as an open access international journal issued twice a year in print and electron (online) format.

Officially supported by the University of Sarajevo's Institute for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology ( ), G&A serves as a platform for disseminating original scientific contributions, short communications, review articles, and letters from across the globe. The journal covers a comprehensive range of topics in genetics, bioengineering and biotechnology.
G&A is committed to ensuring a fast and fair peer-review process, with the goal of making high-quality scientific findings accessible in the shortest possible timeframe. The journal stands out by maintaining a fully open-access model, charging no fees for article submission, processing, or publication. It is issued biannually in both online and print formats.

We are excited to share the latest study published in Genetics & Applications that delves into the fascinating genetic and phenotypic associations between head traits! This comprehensive study examines four traits: earlobe type, tongue rugosity, cleft chin, and tongue rolling, across a diverse group of 7,431 individuals in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This research provides valuable insights into the genetic interrelations of common head traits and opens the door for further investigations into human phenotypic diversity.

🚨 New Research Alert 🚨

A recent study sequenced 24 complete mitochondrial genomes from healthy individuals in Bosnia and Herzegovina, focusing on the MT-ATP6 and MT-ATP8 genes crucial for energy production. Using advanced next-gen sequencing technology, researchers identified 11 SNPs, none of which were linked to mitochondrial diseases. These findings provide valuable insight into genome variation in European populations and pave the way for future clinical applications in mitochondrial DNA analysis.
