Creativity meets Technology ✨

At XV in Barbados, the Association of Caribbean Copyright Societies (ACCS) hosted a panel on AI & Copyright.

Keynote speaker Sydney Sanches presented Brazil’s draft AI Bill, hailed as a global model for protecting creators in the age of AI.

The discussion asked:
🤔 Can AI help small nations grow their creative industries?
💡 How might it open new doors for creators?
⚖️ What’s the balance between protecting human creativity and fostering innovation?

The takeaway: AI is not just a challenge—it’s also an opportunity. For the Caribbean, the task is to protect creativity while using AI smartly for growth and cultural preservation. 🌍🎶 Carifesta

Caribbean Creativity Deserves Justice!

At Carifesta , the Association of Caribbean Copyright Societies (ACCS) called for stronger copyright and collective management to ensure our artists are fairly rewarded for their music, art, and stories.

💬 “Copyright and collective management are about more than contracts and royalties—they are about justice,” said Dr. Erica K. Smith, CEO of COSCAP.

Together—creators, policymakers, businesses, and communities—we can build a Caribbean where creativity fuels prosperity. 🌴🎶✨

Who would’ve thought a deep cut from 1962 would be the sound of 2025? 💿✨ Connie Francis – the voice behind classics like “Everybody’s Somebody’s Fool” – is having a major revival thanks to TikTok. Her track “Pretty Little Baby” (which wasn’t even released as a single back then!) has blown up with millions of creators using it for retro looks, baby videos, and just pure nostalgia vibes. 🌸🕊️

The numbers are wild: from just 17k streams a week to 2.4 million in under a month – and climbing 🚀. It’s even landing on Spotify’s top charts, which means we might see this 63-year-old gem sneak its way onto the Hot 100 for the very first time.

TikTok virality = new royalties

When “Pretty Little Baby” started trending, the surge in streams on Spotify, Apple Music, and other platforms triggered royalties for the songwriters and publishers. COSCAP members in Barbados would get similar protections if their music suddenly blew up online.

• Non-single tracks can still earn

This song wasn’t a single, yet decades later it’s generating fresh income. COSCAP ensures that all registered works (whether chart-toppers or hidden gems) are covered when played publicly, streamed, or synced in videos.

• Creators benefit long-term

Just as Connie Francis is now seeing new earnings from an old recording, COSCAP members could one day have their catalogues revived by a trend, commercial, or film — and licensing ensures the income flows back to them.

👉 In short: this story is a reminder that music licensing isn’t just about today’s hits — it protects artists for decades, so when the world rediscovers your work, you’re ready to benefit. 🎶💼
