Last weekend, it was truly “pantastic”.
Arguably one of the most highly anticipated weekends on the Crop Over calendar, the pan weekend attracted record numbers at their events from Friday right through to the climax on Sunday.
The weekend of sweet pan music began with Pan Fusion, held under the patronage of Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, at his official residence Ilaro Court. Hundreds packed the grounds, which were filled with the rhythmic sounds of steel. And, despite intermittent showers, patrons thoroughly enjoyed the show, even sticking around for the Pantasy After-Party.

Coming from “pantastic” Crop Over weekend, many are still talking about some of the great performances, and reminiscing.
But one of Barbados’ most renowned pannists, David ZigE Walcott, is concerned about the lack of development within the pan community.
ZigE, who performed with his band Mosaic at Pan Pun De Sand last Sunday, told Bajan Vibes that if pan was not treated properly, it would die of natural causes.

“I think corporate Barbados should support the local steel bands a little more. I basically run Mosaic from my pocket. It’s a little hard; but if we don’t do it, Mosaic doesn’t perform. It’s a lot of sacrifice. But if we had assistance
it would be great.
“Even if a business would come forward and say, ‘Let’s sponsor them for the day, so they can have some cash flow to tune the bands; for uniforms’. There is a lot of fine-tuning ...

David 'ZigE' Walcott and his band "brought the house down...the MAIN CROWD PLEASER"

The ”hills’ of Ilaro Court came alive last night with the sweet sounds of pan music, signalling the start to a ‘pan-tastic’ weekend.
Not even the rain could stop the show.
Despite intermittent rain showers, hundreds turned out for the First Citizens Pan Fusion and the Pantasy after party, held under the patronage of Prime Minister Freundel Stuart.
Prime Minister Freundel Stuart took in some of the sweet pan music.
David ZigE Walcott and his band brought the house down.
The show, which was billed as The Battle of the Sexes, featured performances from the Women from Venus, including Iman Pascall and Kabilah Delgado from USA, as well Elan Trotman and Kareem Thompson, who were among the Men from Mars.

Nation newspaper article reads "If it was a pan competition Sunday at Brandons Beach for the Massy Pan Pun De Sand, big band Mosaic won hands down!!!" The event was spectacular and one of the biggest crowds for the season. Mosaic under the directorship of ZigE had a blast together with the other guest steel pan bands. Thanks to all who came out to support!
