The Barbados Association of Journalists and Media Workers (BARJAM) has called for the government to prioritise Freedom of Information legislation this parliamentary session.

In a statement issued to mark World Press Freedom Day, association president Ryan Broome said the legislation is essential to strengthening transparency and accountability across public institutions.

Four men charged in connection with a major drug and fi****ms investigation appeared in court on Saturday, after police seized nearly half a tonne of cannabis with an estimated street value of over three million dollars.

Kyle Xavier Bailey, 23, of Claybury, St John; Jamal Tyrone Agard, 34, of Philips Road, Cleavers Hill, St Joseph; Marlon Dale Romario Reid, 26, of Claybury, St John; and Dashon Kobi Inniss, 23, of Branchbury, St Joseph, appeared before Magistrate Alison Burke in the District ‘A’ Traffic Court on Saturday in connection with offences allegedly committed on April 25.
