Really proud, proud, proud of this right here... At the end of August, with only two months to go to print, my two business partners, and and I decided to buy a luxury print magazine and turn it into a lifestyle brand. It was my first time being editor in chief of a print magazine, my first time selling ads and the first time that so much was at stake. Through luck and sheer hard work our first issue was a resounding success and earned us a great deal of praise ... but we have so far to go. We are confident in our future because we believe in what we consider to be the true meaning of luxury.... Luxury = choice.... Luxury means to not only having the option to dine where ever you please but to understand the humble beginnings of the food you eat there, from the ingredients to the chef who grew up on the wrong side of the tracks and “made it” through sheer perseverance.... to be able to appreciate objects with massive price tags that were designed by highly skilled artisans while being able to do the same for homemade, homegrown and sustainable brands that carry a similar degree of craftsmanship.... to understand that there is no such thing as local anymore- local means the planet earth and to understand that to appreciate life to its fullest, one must dig beneath the surface. That’s why- the hard sell- it is a dated concept. No longer can we insult people’s intelligence by telling them to buy something because of a fancy logo and some shine- we must share information, expertise, values- an ethos. Luxury is the ability to find your authentic voice, experience true beauty and attain longevity in this rapidly changing world. This my friends is Living Barbados.
