A leading Bangladeshi artist, Laila Sharmeen paints not only with colour but also with memory, philosophy, and quiet rebellion. Her works carry the scent of rivers, the rhythm of forgotten poems, and the dream of a greener, kinder world. With more than 50 international exhibitions and 11 solo shows, Laila’s art blends the spirit of Bengal with the questions of modern life — in soft strokes, layered textures, and symbolic forms.

Walking into YUZU feels like stepping into a carefully curated dreamscape—where warm textures, earthy tones, and playful design accents converge to create a Pan-Asian dining experience unlike any other in Dhaka. Located in the bustling neighborhood of Dhanmondi, this restaurant is not just about food—it’s a celebration of space, craft, and atmosphere. Designed by Lava Biswas Nandini and Shaharia Nasrin Reta, cofounders and principal interior architects of Thinkspace, along with Assistant Architect Tahsin Ridwan Pulok, YUZU exemplifies how architecture and design can shape how we savor flavors, linger over conversations, and perceive culture.

For Bangladeshi artist Dhananjoy Mondal, art has always been a river—flowing, shifting, unpredictable, and deeply connected to the soil that raised him. A painter of rivers, fields, and rural life, his work is as much about colours on canvas as it is about memory, patience, and belonging. Over the decades, Mondal has carved out a career not only as an accomplished painter working in watercolour and acrylics, but also as a dedicated teacher shaping generations of young artists at Seabreeze International School. His journey tells a story of evolution, but also of constancy: no matter how far his brush has traveled, it always returns to the waters of his childhood.

Hidden in the busy streets of Tikatuli, Dhaka, stands the Rose Garden Palace—a place once alive with grandeur, now quietly fading into the city’s chaos. Built by zamindar Hrishikesh Das as a symbol of pride and culture, the palace has lost much of its shine over the years. Recognizing its fading legacy, Adnin Tazry, a student of North South University, developed the vision through Studio X, guided by Ar. Mujtaba Ahsan and Ar. AKM Saleh Ahmed Anik, to bring it back to life. Her project, “Spirit of Freedom: Reviving the Historical Rose Garden Palace,” proposes to transform the site into a museum and cultural center that celebrates heritage while engaging the community.

Aarong’s Dhanmondi outlet is making waves not just for its size but for the way it transforms shopping into a multi-sensory celebration of heritage and design. Claiming the title of the world’s largest craft store, it stretches across 60,000 square feet and spans eight floors. But it’s an experience, a journey through Bangladeshi heritage, craftsmanship, and modern design, all under one roof.
