❗ The Bhola-Barishal Bridge❗

★The Bhola-Barishal Bridge will be built over the Tentulia and Kalabador rivers. The total length of the bridge will be about 10.86 kilometers. It will be built using the balanced cantilever technology, which helps reduce construction costs.

★The estimated cost of the project is Tk 17,466 crore. Construction is expected to begin in January 2026 and be completed by 2033.

★A Japanese company, Miyagawa Construction Ltd, has shown interest in the project and a contract has been signed. However, if funding is not confirmed, the project will be implemented with Bangladesh’s own funds.

★After the bridge is built, it will save 6.38 crore kilometers of travel distance each year and 51.9 crore hours of travel time. It is expected to increase the country’s GDP by 0.86%. The construction cost will be recovered within 24 years through toll collection.

★To build the bridge, 507 acres of land will need to be acquired. It will take two years to complete the design, bidding process, land acquisition, and rehabilitation plan. The actual construction will take 78 months to finish.

This bridge will play a major role in improving communication, economy, and social development in the southern region of the country. It will connect Bhola to the mainland and help improve the quality of life for the people in the district.
