he Town That Woke Up to a Talking Traffic Cone began with a prank that spiraled far beyond what anyone expected.
One chilly morning, commuters noticed something odd at the center of the roundabout. A bright orange traffic cone was speaking — or at least, it seemed to be. As cars slowed, a deep voice suddenly boomed, “Good morning! Please drive safely. And don’t forget your coffee!”
People nearly swerved in disbelief. Some laughed, some filmed, and one elderly man shouted back, “Who’s in there then?” The cone answered, “Just your friendly neighborhood cone!” Within minutes, traffic backed up not from congestion, but from pure curiosity.
Local police arrived, puzzled but amused. After a bit of searching, they found a tiny speaker hidden inside the cone, connected to a wireless microphone nearby. A group of students admitted to the prank, explaining it was originally meant to cheer up the early-morning commuters.
Instead of being angry, most residents loved the idea. Videos spread online, and within hours the “talking cone” became a local celebrity. Children visited after school, hoping to hear a new joke. Even the mayor showed up and jokingly asked the cone for infrastructure advice.
Eventually the prank ended, but the memory stayed. The town had been struggling with gloomy weather and low spirits, but one silly idea managed to lift the whole place for days.
Sometimes the simplest jokes are the ones people cling to the longest.
