His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the Founder-Acharya of ISKCON, also known as Srila Prabhupada, had a long-lasting and deep impact on the lives of millions of people with his tireless efforts to spread the loving and profound message of Lord Sri Krishna all over the world. Srila Prabhupada wrote over 70 books and built 108 temples in a brief span of 10-12 years at the advanced age of 70. Even in his last days, he was as devoted as ever to serving Krishna by translating Srimad Bhagavatam. He left this mortal world on 14 Nov 1977 gloriously amidst the chanting of the holy names of Lord Sri Krishna in the sacred land of Vrindavan. His life and teachings continue to inspire countless individuals on their spiritual journeys.

The appearance and disappearance of the pure devotees of Lord Krishna are not similar to the passing away of ordinary souls. Pure devotees or acharyas appear in this world due to the will of the Supreme Lord to enlighten and save the conditioned souls suffering in the repeated cycle of birth and death and awaken their eternal relationship with Lord Krishna.

Srila Prabhupada may not be physically present, but he is present in the form of his Deities in the temple and the form of vani, available in his books, lectures, conversations, letters, and memories shared by disciples. Hence, the appearance and disappearance of the acharyas are both equally celebrated.

Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura, one of the acharyas in the line of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and early pioneers of spreading Krishna’s message to the West, writes:

He reasons ill who says that Vaishnavas die,
When thou art living still in sound!
The Vaishnavas die to live,
and living try To spread the holy name around.

In a press conference on July 16, 1975, Srila Prabhupada himself stated:

“I will never die. I shall live forever in my books, and you will utilize.”

By reading Srila Prabhupada’s books, listening to his lectures, and faithfully adhering to his guidance, we can maintain a strong connection with him and, in doing so; we can please him by following his instructions.

Lord Kṛṣṇa said that Govardhana-pūjā is as good as worship of Him. From that day, Govardhana-pūjā has been going on and is known as Annakūṭa.

Krsna Book 24:

The sacrifice known as Govardhana-pūjā is observed in the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement. Lord Caitanya has recommended that since Kṛṣṇa is worshipable, so His land—Vṛndāvana and Govardhana Hill—is also worshipable. To confirm this statement, Lord Kṛṣṇa said that Govardhana-pūjā is as good as worship of Him. From that day, Govardhana-pūjā has been going on and is known as Annakūṭa. In all the temples of Vṛndāvana or outside of Vṛndāvana, huge quantities of food are prepared in this ceremony and are very sumptuously distributed to the general population. Sometimes the food is thrown to the crowds, and they enjoy collecting it off the ground. From this we can understand that prasādam offered to Kṛṣṇa never becomes polluted or contaminated, even if it is thrown on the ground. The people therefore collect and eat it with great satisfaction.

Happy Rama Ekadashi

The Supreme Lord, Sri Krishna then spoke as follows, "O lion among kings, please listen as I narrate to you. The Ekadasi that occurs during the dark part of the month of Karttika is called Ramaa Ekadasi. It is most auspicious, for it at once eradicates the greatest sins and awards one the passage to the spiritual abode. I shall now narrate to you its history and glories.

Just as black cows and white cows give equally good quality milk. So the Ekadasis of the dark fortnight (Krishna paksha) and the light fortnight (shukla or Gaura paksha) award the same high degree of merit and eventually liberate one from the repeated cycle of birth and death.

O GIRIRaj!They say that when a devotee comes to Govardhan Hill and starts chanting His Name: “Giriraj, Giriraj, Giriraj!...
27/10/2024

O GIRIRaj!
They say that when a devotee comes to Govardhan Hill and starts chanting His Name: “Giriraj, Giriraj, Giriraj!” – then Giriraj himself comes down from the hill and starts following that devotee to hear better what he wants to tell Him. We call Him by name, we address Him, and He starts following us to hear exactly what we want to tell Him!
If someone asks Him for some material desires, He quickly fulfills them and returns to His place, disappointed as usual. But if a devotee says: “O Giriraj, give me pure love for You and nothing else!” – then Giriraj goes and listens further. He has a lot of experience with such requests, and He is in no hurry to fulfill that desire. The person goes around Govardhan, returns to His place, and Giriraj says: “Let’s wait until the next time he comes.”
The next time the devotee comes here again, walks around the hill and again says, "Oh Giriraj, give me pure love!" Giriraj again says, "Well, let's see what happens next..." The third time the devotee comes and says, "Oh Giriraj, give me... a wife!" Giriraj replies, "Take it!" And returns, disappointed as usual...
The point is that Giriraj can give us the most valuable thing, but He is in no hurry to give it to us because He wants to test our sincerity. How much we want love and nothing else!

Translation:

(1) To the Supreme Lord, whose form is the embodiment of eternal existence, knowledge, and bliss, whose
shark-shaped earrings are swinging to and fro, who is beautifully shining in the divine realm of Gokula, who
[due to the offense of breaking the pot of yogurt that His mother was churning into butter and then stealing
the butter that was kept hanging from a swing] is quickly running from the wooden grinding mortar in fear
of mother Yasoda, but who has been caught from behind by her who ran after Him with greater speed—to
that Supreme Lord, Sri Damodara, I offer my humble obeisances.

(2) Seeing the whipping stick in His mother’s hand,] He is crying and rubbing His eyes again and again with
His two lotus hands. His eyes are filled with fear, and the necklace of pearls around His neck, which is
marked with three lines like a conchshell, is shaking because of His quick breathing due to crying. To
this Supreme Lord, Sri Damodara, whose belly is bound not with ropes but with His mother’s pure love, I offer
my humble obeisances.

(3) By such childhood pastimes as this He is drowning the inhabitants of Gokula in pools of ecstasy, and
is revealing to those devotees who are absorbed in knowledge of His supreme majesty and opulence that He is
only conquered by devotees whose pure love is imbued with intimacy and is free from all conceptions of awe
and reverence. With great love I again offer my obeisances to Lord Damodara hundreds and hundreds of times.

(4) 0 Lord, although You are able to give all kinds of benedictions, I do not pray to You for the boon of
impersonal liberation, nor the highest liberation of eternal life in Vaikuntha, nor any other boon [which may
be obtained by executing the nine processes of bhakti]. O Lord, I simply wish that this form of Yours as
Bala Gopala in Vrindavana may ever be manifest in my heart, for what is the use to me of any other boon
besides this?

(5) 0 Lord, Your lotus face, which is encircled by locks of soft black hair tinged with red, is kissed again and
again by mother Yasoda, and Your lips are reddish like the bimba fruit. May this beautiful vision of Your lotus
face be ever manifest in my heart. Thousands and thousands of other benedictions are of no use to me.

(6) 0 Supreme Godhead, I offer my obeisances unto You. O Damodara! O Ananta! O Vishnu! O master! O my
Lord, be pleased upon me. By showering Your glance of mercy upon me, deliver this poor ignorant fool who
is immersed in an ocean of worldly sorrows, and become visible to my eyes.

(7) 0 Lord Damodara, just as the two sons of Kuvera—Manigriva and Nalakuvara—were delivered from the
curse of Narada and made into great devotees by You in Your form as a baby tied with rope to a wooden
grinding mortar, in the same way, please give to me Your own prema-bhakti. I only long for this and have
no desire for any kind of liberation.

(8) 0 Lord Damodara, I first of all offer my obeisances to the brilliantly effulgent rope which binds Your belly.
I then offer my obeisances to Your belly, which is the abode of the entire universe. I humbly bow down to
Your most beloved Srimati Radharani, and I offer all obeisances to You, the Supreme Lord, who displays
unlimited pastimes.

Question: What is the Specialness of the Month of Kartika, with a SPECIAL ANALOGY Given by His Divine Grace....

Prabhupada: You have asked about the specialness of the month of Kartikeya, and the answer is that is is a special inducement for persons who are not in Krishna Consciousness to perform some devotional service. For persons who are doing nothing in Krishna Consciousness, it is an indirect inducement to take to devotional service in earnest seriousness, every moment is Kartikeya. In this connection, there is a good example that sometimes a store gives special concession to attract new customers. But for those who are already customers there is no need of a special sale. They will purchase at any cost if they know the import and value of the goods. Similarly, those who are pure devotees do not aspire for any concession, and out of spontaneous love try to engage themselves in devotional service 24 hours each day, 365 days every year, without any stoppage.>>> Ref. *🪔 Kartik(Damodar) month (Kartik maas) 2024 begins on 17th October and ends on 15th November 🪔*

Kartik is special because it represents Srimati Radharani, beloved of Krishna, and our eternal mother.

In Bhagavad Gita 10.35, Krishna says, “Of months I am Margashirsha [November-December]”. Kartik month [October – November] represents Radharani and it precedes Krishna’s month.

Srimati Radharani is also known as Kartika Devi. If we can please her with our sincere devotion during this auspicious month then Krishna will also be pleased.

“As Sat- yuga is the best of yugas (ages), as the Vedas are the best among scriptures, as Ganga is the best of rivers, so Kartik is the best of months , the most dear to Lord Krishna”.

Lord Shri Krishna says, “ Of all plants, the sacred Tulasi is most dear to Me; of all months, Kartik is most dear, of all places of pilgrimage, My beloved Dwarka is most dear, and of all days, Ekadashi is most dear.”

Kartik month (Kartik maas) is the best of the month for spiritual progress. Scriptures say that Kartik month is the holiest month. Sacred Vedic literatures sing the glories of the auspicious month in the following ways:

🪔 If one offers a lamp during the month of Kartika, his sins of many thousands and millions of births perish in half an eye blink.

🪔 Even if there is no mantras, no pious deeds, and no purity, everything becomes perfect when a person offers a lamp during the month of Kartik.

🪔 A person who during the month of Kartika offers a lamp to Lord Keshava has already performed all yajnas (sacrifice for the pleasure of the Lord) and bathing in all the holy rivers.

🪔 The ancestors say “when someone in our family pleases Lord Keshav by offering Him a lamp during the month of Kartik, then by the mercy of the Lord who holds the Sudarshan-Chakra in His hand, we will all attain liberation.”

🪔 To one who either at home or in a temple offers a lamp during the month of Kartika, Lord Vasudev gives a great result.

🪔 A person who offer a lamp to Lord Krishna during the month of Damodar (Kartik) becomes very glorious and fortune.

🪔 By offering a ghee lamp during the month of Kartik one burns away a collection of sins as big as Mount Meru or Mount Mandara. Of this there is no doubt.

🪔 No sins exist anywhere in the three worlds that will not be purified by offering a lamp to Lord Keshava during Kartika.
*(Source: Skanda Purana)*

🪔 A person who offers a lamp to Lord Damodar during Kartik attains the eternal spiritual world. In the spiritual world there is no suffering.

🪔 One who offers a steady ghee lamp to Lord Hari during the month of Kartik enjoys pastimes in Lord Hari’s splendid spiritual world.
*(Source: Padma Purana)*

Of all gifts the gift of a ghee lamp during the month of Kartik is the best. No gift is its equal.
*(Source: Narada Purana, in a conversation of Sri Mohini-devi and Sri Rukmangada)*

✨ Devotees take special vows called urja–vrata during this month. The purpose is to utilize most of the time and energy in practicing devotion to Krishna.

*🪔 How to observe Kartik? 🪔*

Since Kartik is the holiest month, so the scriptures say that we should worship Krishna in a special way. This is described below:

🪔 Offering Ghee Lamp to Lord Damodar

🪔 During this month the Damodara pastime took place wherein mother Yashoda binds Krishna to a grinding mortar with a rope. The pastime illustrates that how Krishna who is the Supreme Lord and supremely powerful can be conquered by love.

🪔 So, during Kartik which is also known as Damodar month devotees offer lamp to the picture or deity of Krishna. Devotees choose that picture or deity of Krishna where he is bound by rope of love by his mother, Yashoda.

🪔 Sanatan Goswami in Hari Bhakti Vilasa says that during Kartik month we should offer ghee lamp daily to Krishna.

🪔 The lamp can be offered both in the morning and in the evening. If devotees do not have time they can offer lamp as per their convenience either in the morning or evening.

*🎶 Singing Damodarashtakam 🎶*

🪔 While offering lamp with love we should sing Damodarashtakam prayers written by the sage Satyavrata.

*📿 Chanting the names of Krishna*

Chanting the holy names of the Lord is very important. Those of us who have taken a vow to chant 16 rounds of Hare Krishna mahamantra daily should chant more sincerely.

Those who are chanting less than 16 rounds of mahamantra can increase their round at least by one or two.

*📖 Reading Scriptures 📖*

We should daily read scriptures either Srimad Bhagavatam, Bhagavad Gita or any of Srila Prabhupada’s books.

Reading is very important as it purifies our intelligence and clears many of our doubts.

*🪷 Hearing about Krishna 🪷*

We should try to hear lectures of Srila Prabhupada or senior devotees this month.

We should try to associate more with the devotees. Spiritual association will help us to develop spiritual consciousness and by seeing other devotees’ resolve we too get impetus to practice devotional life with sincerity.

*🛕 Visiting Temple 🛕*

If possible we should try to visit the temple and participate with the devotees in offering lamp to the Lord.

Chanting, singing, dancing and offering lamp to the deities in the temple is always very pleasing and brings joy to our heart.

*🏠 Worshiping Lord Krishna at home 🏠*

But if we are staying at a place where temple is not nearby then we can invite devotees, family members, neighbours, office colleagues and together we can offer ghee lamp to the Lord.

It is true that we may not be able to invite people every day to our homes but at least once in a week specially on weekends we can do so and rest of the days of the weeks we can offer the lamp with our family members at home.

Lord Damodar allowed himself to be tied!

When Yashoda tried to tie Damodar. Everytime she would tie, always the rope would be 2 fingers short. So so many times 2 fingers short, so thereafter, she is discussing why is it 2 fingers short?

Because the Lord cannot be tied unless, there is the desire of the devotee and his causeless mercy. So, just the desire you have is not enough you must have, Lords mercy upon you. You cannot force, lord. But the desire is strong then Lord gives his mercy. So finally Krsna allowed himself to be tied, just to the intense love of his devotee. Hare krsna.
