[오늘의 이화] 1925년 4월 24일 / 이화여자전문학교 설립
이화는 1910년 대학과를 발족하고 한국 여성을 위한 고등교육의 기반을 닦았습니다. 이에 그치지 않고 앨리스 아펜젤러 선생님은 대학과와 대학예과를 독립 개편하여 1925년 조선 유일의 여자 최고 학부 이화여자전문학교를 설립했습니다. 이화여전은 문과, 음악과, 가사과의 전공학과를 두고 인문학·예술학·이학을 교육하며 학문간의 균형을 갖추고, 전문 교육을 통해 민족을 위해 일할 여성 인재 양성에 앞장섭니다.
[Ewha Today] April 24, 1925 / Establishment of Ewha College for Women
In 1910, Ewha started a collegiate department, making the foundation for higher education for Korean women. Upon this, Miss Alice Appenzeller reorganized the collegiate and preparatory departments into independent entities and, in 1925, established Ewha College for Women—the only institution of its kind in Korea at the time. Ewha College offered majors in Literature, Music, and Home Economics, providing education in the humanities, arts, and sciences. With a balanced interdisciplinary curriculum and a focus on professional education, the college took the lead in nurturing talented women dedicated to serving the nation.
