A beautiful, rocky, and treacherous shoreline on Kauai. Hawai'i.
This is a unique tide pool on Kauai historically used as a royal bathing place and as a place of relaxation by Aliʻi (royalty).
The pool is a sinkhole surrounded by lava rock. It is home to small fish, sea urchins, angelfish, and the elusive “ghost fish".
CAUTION: There have been many rescues, injuries, and deaths here. This placid pool can be deadly when the swells are high.
There have been more than 30 recent fatalities here, and some folks have been dragged out, never seen again.
HEED THE SIGNS!
We captured it when photographing the house in the background and did not venture into the ocean or shoreline at all.
