I tell this story every year. When my 23 year old was in third grade, he was scared to take his SOL tests (Virginiaā€™s standardized test). My wife told him eggs were good for his brain and if he ate an egg sandwich before the tests, he would do great. I dutifully cooked an egg sandwich before each test and he did great. So I kept doing it. That was 14 years ago. My youngest son is in 9th grade. He has 4 SOLs left. By the time heā€™s done, I will have racked up 16 years of egg sandwiches. He scored advanced today. Guess they still work!

There are very few things left in this world that remind me of my childhood .. but this remains:)
I remember my mama making us egg salad sandwiches all summer long and always on hotdog buns..
We didnā€™t have much ā€¦ quite frankly , by most accounts we were poor!!
But I didnā€™t know that!!
I didnā€™t know that hotdog buns were for hotdogs only and that garlic bread was frozen in a box;)
Today I had a loaf of Fresh , white sunbeam bread along side that were these cheap dollar general hot dog buns ā€¦
I chose the buns because thatā€™s how I was raised!!!
And as I sat down to eat my nostalgia sandwich, I thought about my boysā€¦
This world and a lot of people around them are offering white bread .. the norm, the traditional way, the things the world finds acceptable ā€¦ but I pray when they get older , and they get the choice to choose .. they choose hot dog buns everytime:)

My house has smelled divine all day out here in the meadows of Texas! Loaded the mini crock pot up with pinto beans, salt pork & broth this morning & then around noon I made a double batch of cornbread in the "big" iron skillet. Later on this afternoon I cut up some potatoes & cooked some homemade fries in the "little" iron skillet. I need some onion but didn't have any šŸ™ Will be sharing a plate with my neighbor who is a Vietnam Veteran in very bad health & can no longer cook for himself. Long time lurker, first time poster! I have a college senior who commutes and has a heavy class load this semester, some days donā€™t allow for to go to the bathroom let alone eat! Took a trip to Aldi (Lancaster Pa) today and this is our haul!! 80 bucks for all of this!! My daughter is well stocked (bag of food) for quite some time! Happy Saturday!

Aldi to the rescue! My 3-legged german shepherd has been having more trouble slipping on this hallway so I wanted a runner for traction. At $13 each these were far less that I anticipated spending, and I actually love them! Dog tax photo also added lol.
