🌍 Strengthening vaccine cold chains through One Health collaboration

A recent Devpolicy Blog article, co-authored by Prof. Dr. Md. Ahasanul Hoque, Director of the One Health Institute, CVASU, highlights how Bangladesh is setting an example in collaborative public–animal health efforts.

The article, titled “Sharing burdens, increasing impact with robust vaccine cold chains,” explores how maintaining vaccines at the right temperature is vital for protecting both people and animals from preventable diseases. It emphasizes that vaccine success depends not only on production but also on storage, transport, and coordinated management — all sustained by an efficient cold chain.

Prof. Hoque’s contribution reflects Bangladesh’s progress under the USAID Feed the Future Bangladesh Livestock and Nutrition Activity and the One Health Poultry Hub, where cross-sectoral coordination between veterinary and public health teams has shown how shared infrastructure, knowledge, and responsibility can overcome logistical barriers.

This collaborative model demonstrates the true spirit of One Health — protecting livestock, securing food systems, and safeguarding human health through shared investment and collective action.

Post-Conference Update | Pre-Conference Workshop on Quantitative and Qualitative Data Analysis

The Pre-Conference Workshop on Quantitative and Qualitative Data Analysis, jointly organized by the One Health Institute (OHI), CVASU and the CVASU Epi Alumni, was successfully held from 24–26 October 2025 at the conference room, 3rd floor, SAQVTH, CVASU, ahead of the 17th International Scientific Conference.

The workshop was inaugurated and chaired by Prof. Dr. Md. Ahasanul Hoque, Director of OHI, CVASU. A total of 20 participants—advanced undergraduates and early career researchers—took part in this intensive hands-on training, which focused on practical applications of epidemiological data analysis, emphasizing two major areas:

Quantitative Data Analysis: Data management, descriptive and inferential statistics, non-parametric tests, data visualization (Excel, STATA, ArcGIS), and regression modeling.

Qualitative Data Analysis: Interview guideline preparation, conducting interviews, script writing, coding, and thematic analysis.

Dr. Rashed Mahmud, Convener, CVASU Epi Alumni and Project Manager, One Health Poultry Hub (OHPH), was present as the Special Guest and appreciated the efforts of both the organizers and participants in promoting data-driven research capacity among young scientists.

The concluding ceremony was graced by Prof. Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman as the Chief Guest, who encouraged participants to continue developing their analytical and research skills for impactful scientific contributions.

The facilitation team included:

Prof. Dr. Md. Ahasanul Hoque, Director, OHI, CVASU

Dr. Shuvo Singha, CVASU Epi-Alumni, Researcher at Udder Health Bangladesh (UHB)

Mrs. Nusrat Irin, Adjunct Lecturer, OHI, CVASU

Dr. Meherjan Islam, Research Assistant, One Health Poultry Hub, Bangladesh

Dr. Unusing Marma, Research Assistant, OHI, CVASU & UHB

Dr. Md. Jahedul Hasan Rocky, MSc Fellow in Epidemiology

Dr. Tish*ta Sen Ape, MSc Fellow in Epidemiology, Research Assistant, OHI

Participants received certificates of completion and an Epidemiology Handbook as learning resources to support their future research and data analysis practices.

Feedback from participants highlighted the workshop’s interactive learning environment and expert facilitation. A key suggestion was to include more in-depth sessions on quantitative data analysis in future programs.

The One Health Institute expresses heartfelt thanks to all facilitators, guests, participants, and the organizing team for making this event a resounding success.
