1️⃣ The projection of images through a camera obscura.
2️⃣ The discovery that certain substances visibly change when exposed to light.

Before the 18th century, there was no evidence of attempts to capture images using light-sensitive materials. Around 1717, Johann Heinrich Schulze used a light-sensitive slurry to create letter shapes on a bottle, but he didn’t try to make them permanent..

Near 1800, Thomas Wedgwood documented early experiments to capture camera images—unsuccessfully trying to fix them permanently.
In 1826, Nicéphore Niépce successfully fixed the first camera image, though it required 8+ hours of exposure. His partner, Louis Daguerre, later developed the daguerreotype, the first publicly announced and commercially successful photographic process.

By August 1839, Daguerre presented his method in Paris. In recognition, the French government awarded pensions to both Daguerre and Niépce’s heir. While the metal-based daguerreotype gained fame, paper-based calotype and salt print processes also emerged as alternatives..........
