Rohingya Genocide Remembrance Day:
August 25 - The Agony of a Stained Chapter
Today is August 25. A horrific and stained day in the history of humanity. On this day in 2017, the Myanmar military unleashed pre-planned and shameless violence on the Rohingya, which was a full-scale genocide.
On that day, not only were houses burned down, but be***al torture was inflicted upon mothers and sisters, and innocent children and elderly people were burned alive. In the blink of an eye, hundreds of thousands of people were forced to leave their ancestral hearth and home and take shelter in Bangladesh by crossing the Naf River to save their lives.
Our Demands and Commitments on This Day:
Recognition and Justice: We strongly demand from the international community that this brutal massacre be officially recognized as 'genocide' and that the military junta of Myanmar be brought to justice at the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Safe Repatriation: We are grateful to the Government of Bangladesh for sheltering the Rohingya. However, the long-term solution is their return to their homeland, Arakan (Rakhine State). But that must be with civil rights, security, and dignity. Under no circumstances is forced repatriation acceptable.
A Message to the Rohingya Brothers and Sisters:
You are not alone. Every righteous person of the global conscience stands by you in this long struggle of yours. Your indomitable courage and unwavering belief in justice inspire us.
We believe that the darkness will clear away and the sun of truth and justice will rise one day. You will return to your homeland with your lost rights and dignity, holding your heads high.
On this day, let us all pray for the salvation of the souls of all the martyrs of the genocide and make our voices louder for their justice.
