Join RCSD at the Subaltern meeting room, Faculty of Social Sciences, Chiang Mai University on Monday, 14 July starting at 10 am for "Ek Khaale" Once Upon a Time, a special lecture and visual presentation with documentarian and photojournalist Greg Constantine.

For over 60 years, the Rohingya community in Myanmar has faced violence, displacement, and the destruction of their history—erasing their collective memory and identity. Ek Khaale (“Once Upon A Time”) is a groundbreaking project by award-winning photojournalist Greg Constantine that restores and shares rare, unseen photographs, documents, and family archives from the Rohingya’s past. By reviving these lost stories, Ek Khaale challenges decades of erasure and reshapes historical narratives imposed by Burmese regimes. After 19 years documenting Rohingya persecution, Greg now collaborates with Rohingya worldwide to preserve their heritage and amplify their voices. Discover this powerful visual history and learn more about the project in Greg’s upcoming lecture and also at the Ek Khaale exhibition at the Chiang Mai Alliance Francaise Gallery, July 9–19.

Some Rohingya are earning money as online freelancers while living as refugees in Bangladesh, but limited internet and electricity as well as banking restrictions make this an uphill battle, while conservative gender norms punish women for trying to do the same.
