Happy birthday to Prince George, born on this day in 2013.

Born on 22 July 2013 at St Mary's Hospital in Paddington, London, Prince George Alexander Louis is the eldest child of The Prince and Princess of Wales and second in line to the British throne. From the moment he was introduced to the world outside the Lindo Wing, he has grown up in the public eye while his parents have worked to give him as normal a childhood as possible.

Over the years, George has become an increasingly familiar face at major royal occasions, including Trooping the Colour, the late Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee celebrations and the Coronation of King Charles III. As he has grown older, he has appeared noticeably more confident and relaxed during public engagements, often showing a calm, thoughtful nature and a gentle sense of humour that has won him many admirers.

Those who have watched him closely have often commented on his caring and considerate personality, particularly in the way he interacts with his younger siblings, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. His parents have also spoken about encouraging all three children to enjoy sport, the outdoors and family life away from official duties whenever possible.

Many royal watchers also see similarities between Prince George and his late grandmother, Diana, Princess of Wales. While it is, of course, a matter of personal opinion, some believe he has inherited her warm smile, gentle manner and quiet ability to put people at ease when meeting the public.

As Prince George celebrates his 13th birthday, he enters his teenage years with increasing public interest in the future role he will one day inherit. For now, though, he remains a schoolboy enjoying life with his family while gradually taking his first steps as a future King.
