สมเด็จพระจักรพรรดิอากิฮิโตะแห่งญี่ปุ่น เสด็จพระราชดำเนินไปประทับ ณ โรงพยาบาลมหาวิทยาลัยโตเกียว เพื่อทรงรับการตรวจและรับการถวายพระโอสถสำหรับการรักษาภาวะกล้ามเนื้อพระหทัยขาดเลือดแบบไม่แสดงพระอาการ โอกาสนี้ สมเด็จพระจักรพรรดินีมิชิโกะ โดยเสด็จในการนี้ด้วย

สำนักพระราชวังได้ออกแถลงการณ์ว่า สมเด็จพระจักรพรรดิ ทรงรับการถวายพระโอสถ (ยา) ชนิดใหม่เพื่อบรรเทาอาการของพระหทัย หลังคณะแพทย์ได้วินิจฉัยว่าควรปรับขนาดพระโอสถขณะถวายการตรวจคลื่นไฟฟ้าพระหทัย โดยจะประทับเพื่อติดตามพระอาการอย่างใกล้ชิด

สมเด็จพระจักรพรรดิ ทรงออกกำลังพระวรกายเป็นกิจวัตรประจำวัน เช่น การทรงพระดำเนินขึ้นลงบันไดในที่ประทับ พระราชวังหลวงเซนโตะ อีกทั้งทรงพระดำเนินเพื่อบริหารกล้ามเนื้อ พร้อมด้วยสมเด็จพระจักรพรรดินี ภายในเขตพระราชฐานอากาซากะ อย่างไรก็ตาม หลังเสด็จพระราชดำเนินออกจากโรงพยาบาลนั้น จำต้องพักการออกกำลังพระวรกายเป็นระยะ เพื่อรับการตรวจพระวรกาย อย่างไรก็ตาม ได้ทรงงดการบริหารพระวรกายมาหลายวันแล้วเนื่องจากอากาศร้อน

上皇さまは、無症候性心筋虚血などの治療で新たな投薬を行うため、東京大学医学部付属病院（東京都文京区）へ入られた。上皇后さまも付き添われた。

宮内庁によると、上皇さまは心臓の負荷を和らげるため、新たな内服薬を追加される。心電図などを確認しながら投薬量を調整する必要があるとの判断から、入院して経過を観察される。

上皇さまは、お住まいの仙洞御所の中で階段の上り下りや筋力維持のための運動、赤坂御用地内の散策を上皇后さまと一緒に続けていますが、退院後は心臓の負荷を考慮して、休憩を挟むなどしながら取り組まれていました。ただ、この数日間は暑さのため運動を控えられているということです。
