Following reports that the BCCI 🇮🇳 has instructed Kolkata Knight Riders to release Bangladesh 🇧🇩 pacer Mustafizur Rahman, questions are now being raised about Bangladesh’s 🇧🇩 World Cup matches scheduled to be held in Kolkata 🇮🇳.
In light of this development, the Bangladesh cricket Board (BCB) 🇧🇩 should formally convey its concerns to the International Cricket Council (ICC), similar to the objections previously raised by Pakistan 🇵🇰 regarding match venues.
Such incidents highlight the need for the ICC to take serious, neutral, and transparent decisions when awarding hosting rights for major international tournaments, including the Cricket World Cup.
Indian 🇮🇳 political relations with several neighboring countries have often remained strained, and the global game continues to suffer from excessive dependence on Indian 🇮🇳 cricket administration and priorities. As a result, emerging cricket nations—including China 🇨🇳—have struggled to develop the sport.
If cricket aims to achieve global popularity comparable to football, governance must move away from over-centralization and ensure fairness, neutrality, and equal respect for all member nations.
