A day after his wife passed away, former Malaysian prime minister Mahathir Mohamad was admitted to the National Heart Institute for observation.

His son, Mokhzani, told Bernama that the 101-year-old was admitted on Sep. 29.

Mokhzani added that there was no cause for concern over his father's condition and that he was admitted to allow doctors to monitor him following the passing of Mahathir's wife.

Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali passed away on Sep. 28 at the age of 100.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, arrived at Masjid As Syarif, Taman Sungai Besi Indah at about 4pm today to pay their final respects to Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali.

Their arrival came as political leaders, senior government officials, prominent figures and members of the public gathered at the mosque ahead of the funeral prayers for the wife of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
