Trump Launches Controversial “Gold Card” Visa Program for Wealthy Immigrants :

U.S. President Donald Trump has officially launched the much-debated Trump Gold Card immigration program, a premium visa initiative designed to offer wealthy foreign nationals a fast-track route to U.S. lawful permanent residency and eventual citizenship. The program, announced in early December 2025 and rolled out with an official website and application portal, marks a significant shift in U.S. immigration policy. 

Under the new system, individual applicants must first pay a $15,000 processing fee and then make a $1 million contribution to the U.S. Treasury after passing a background check. A corporate version allows companies to sponsor foreign workers by contributing $2 million per employee. Trump has described the Gold Card as a more prestigious alternative to the traditional Green Card framework, emphasizing its potential to attract global talent and generate significant government revenue. 

The Gold Card effectively replaces the long-standing EB-5 investor visa program, which required foreign investors to place capital into job-creating U.S. businesses. The new initiative removes the strict economic requirements of the EB-5 and replaces them with direct financial contributions, a change that has drawn mixed reactions. 

Critics — including immigration experts and civil rights advocates — argue the program could create a two-tiered immigration system that privileges the ultra-wealthy over ordinary immigrants, lacks clear legal backing, and may face future legal challenges due to questions about its alignment with existing immigration law.
