When we started Pathao, It took 3 months to get our first customer.

Pathao originally started as an on demand delivery company, similar to Pathao Parcels today.

The idea was to send any packages from anywhere in Dhaka to any other place in Dhaka within 90 minutes.

The problem was, not everyone needs to send something somewhere every single day.

Thankfully, one day..

A customer reached out on our page.

🗣 “Bhaiya, I want to send 10 different sarees at 10 different addresses, can you help?”

Me: “Yes I can, it’ll be 120 taka per delivery.”

🗣 “Our current courier company charges 60 taka, can you charge me 50 taka? and I’ll do it”

Me: “Okay, let’s do it.”

We eventually evolved into that courier business and that is what actually gave us that initial traction.

It took us 3 more months to get the next 4/5 more customers.
And in total 6 months to get to 100 deliveries a day.

I changed my entire business model, I changed my entire pricing strategy to listen to the market and it rewarded me. It wouldn’t have worked out if I was stubborn.

The lesson from all of this is to keep your EGO in check and listen to customers.
