Save and Share before the day of Ashura❤️🌙 What Happened on the Day of Ashura? The 10th of Muharram, known as Ashura, is one of the most significant days in the Islamic calendar. The most authentic event associated with this day is the salvation of Prophet Musa (AS) and his people from Pharaoh. When the Prophet ﷺ arrived in Madinah and saw the Jews fasting on Ashura, they explained that it was the day Allah saved Musa (AS). The Prophet ﷺ said: “We have more right to Musa than them,” and he fasted on that day and encouraged the Muslims to fast as well. (Sahih al-Bukhari & Sahih Muslim) The Prophet ﷺ also said: “Fasting on the day of Ashura, I hope that Allah will expiate the sins of the previous year.” (Sahih Muslim) Many people also mention events such as the repentance of Adam (AS), the Ark of Nuh (AS) coming to rest, Yunus (AS) being delivered from the belly of the whale, and Ayyub (AS) being cured of his illness. While these reports are found in some historical and scholarly narrations, there is no authentic sahih hadith that specifically confirms these events occurred on the 10th of Muharram. As Muslims, we neither reject historical reports outright nor elevate them to the level of authentic hadith without evidence. We honor what is authentically established and remain careful not to exaggerate or attribute to the Prophet ﷺ what he did not say. Ashura also reminds us of the sacrifice of Imam Husayn ibn Ali (RA), who was martyred in Karbala while standing firmly for truth and justice. May Allah grant us the gratitude of Musa (AS), the patience of Husayn (RA), and the wisdom to follow authentic knowledge with sincerity. 🤍
