I request all our guardians, students, and concerned supporters of the current student movement managing city traffic: go through the short list of major traffic management guidelines below.

All the kids are doing a great job but you don't have to try and do it all. Just keep traffic moving smoothly, till law enforcement can get back on board and deal with the legal issues.

1. Pedestrian Priority: Direct vehicles to always give way to pedestrians at crosswalks and intersections. Ensure pedestrian safety by clearly signaling vehicles to stop when needed.
2. Turning Left: When managing left turns, instruct drivers to stop and wait for oncoming traffic and pedestrians to clear before turning. If traffic is light, it's acceptable to allow the turn when safe.
3. Turning Right on Red: Make sure vehicles do not turn right on a red light unless there’s a sign that explicitly allows it. Communicate this clearly to drivers at intersections.
4. Lane Discipline: Encourage drivers to stay in their lanes and avoid sudden lane changes without signaling. Ensure vehicles pass on the right side only when it's safe, and remind them to signal before doing so.
5. Emergency Vehicles: On narrow roads, direct all vehicles to move to the side when you hear an ambulance or other emergency vehicle approaching. Clear a path as quickly and safely as possible, especially on roads similar to those in Bangladesh.
6. Using Indicators: Remind drivers to always use their indicators when turning or changing lanes. This helps ensure clear communication with other road users and improves overall safety.
7. Parking Rules: Prevent double parking by directing vehicles to park only in designated areas. Ensure they do not block traffic flow or access to driveways and entrances.
8. Safety for Traffic Managers: For your own safety, avoid standing in the middle of the road while directing traffic, particularly on main roads. Focus your efforts on managing U-turns and intersections to maintain a smooth flow of traffic.
9. Respect and Politeness: Be aware that checking the interior of a car requires permission, similar to how police need a warrant. If you must interact with drivers in this way, always ask politely and respectfully. Keep in mind: Many people have paperwork issues because BRTA has not been functioning for more than a month now.
10. Stay Safe and Focused: Remember, managing traffic is challenging work. Stay safe, focused, and patient to effectively manage the situation.
