If someone had told my younger self that one day I’d be leading a company, I probably would’ve laughed in disbelief.
Having grown up in a traditional, somewhat conservative household, I always thought I would be lucky if I even get the permission or opportunity to have a job, let alone start my own company!
My dreams were simple—maybe one day I’d land a role in a sleek office, working quietly on a computer, under the direction of a boss who told me what to do. That was the ceiling I imagined for myself.
Entrepreneurship? Starting my own company? Being the boss? That wasn’t even in my vocabulary.
As a little girl, I drew inspiration from one of my aunts. She was probably the only female career woman that I knew growing up. I watched the kind of respect and independence she enjoyed, and I wanted the same.
Eventually, I met people who believed in me—sometimes more than I believed in myself. They challenged me, supported me, and nudged me toward a path I never thought I’d have the courage to walk.
And here I am today—doing things I once thought were impossible. Running Meraki Innovations. Making bold decisions. Building teams. Learning, failing, growing. Still scared at times, but far more excited.
Here’s to the journey. To the unknown. And to every girl who thinks she’s only meant to follow—you were born to lead, too.
