Street food has never defined Gulshan, but that changed last year with the rise of Rangpur Goli, a once-quiet alley in North Gulshan 2 that now buzzes with life every night. By day, Gulshan wears its polished look of embassies, hotels, and corporate offices. But after midnight, this narrow stretch near Gulshan 2 roundabout transforms into a vibrant food haven, drawing crowds not just from the neighbourhood but across Dhaka.
The alley’s journey began 15 years ago with the humble Rangpur Tea Stall, later renamed Rangpur Confectionery. Founded by Abu Sayed Selim, it offered a range of teas, from Tk20 milk tea to exotic saffron tea, and quickly became a student and office-goer hangout. Its name stuck, and soon the alley itself became known as Rangpur Goli.
But tea alone could not satisfy night wanderers. In 2023, Rater Kebab set up grills under a tin shed, serving smoky fish and chicken kebabs that lured customers with the aroma of charred spices. Soon after, Viral Fuchka Mama joined the scene, and his doi fuchka became an overnight sensation, with sales reaching Tk90,000 on busy nights. Next came Gulshan Nehari Ghar, offering hearty stews, while newer experiments like Car Khana, a car-boot eatery selling chips makha, added novelty. Entrepreneurs such as Tahsin Jahan followed, bringing homemade tehari and kebabs, turning Rangpur Goli into a hub for car-based food ventures.
Today, the alley is packed with fuchka, kebabs, nehari, seafood, noodles, burgers, puddings, juices, and more, keeping stoves burning until 2 am under police-set rules. With its mix of tradition, innovation, and community spirit, Rangpur Goli has carved out a new identity for Gulshan, where street food thrives as much as fine dining.
