Following the recent devastating fires across the country, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) has issued instructions for teachers, officers, and staff to remain alert. The directive has been sent to both government and non-government educational institutions as well as field-level education offices to prevent fire accidents.
On Sunday (October 19), Md. Khalid Hossain, Assistant Director of the Administration Branch of the Directorate, issued the directive.
According to the instructions, before leaving any office, department, or educational institution under the Ministry of Education, all electrical switches, lights, fans, and computers must be turned off. Additionally, it has been instructed to ensure that air conditioner plugs are unplugged.
The notice urges teachers, officers, and staff to verify these matters before leaving the office and to act with caution. It has been sent to the head teachers of government and private schools, principals of colleges, district and upazila education offices, and all regional offices of the DSHE.
Reportedly, the Directorate took this initiative following a series of fire incidents in the country that caused loss of lives and extensive damage.
On October 14, a fire at a chemical warehouse in Mirpur’s Shialbari claimed 16 lives. On October 16, a towel factory in the EPZ area of Chattogram caught fire, which took about 17 and a half hours to extinguish. Most recently, on October 18, a fire broke out at the cargo village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, which was brought under full control after 27 hours. As a result, the DSHE has issued this warning to ensure safety in educational institutions.
