Death toll from deadly Westfield knife attack rises to six as police home in on killer’s identity
----
Five women and one man were killed at Westfield Bondi Junction in a knife attack that’s shaken Sydney.
Six people have died and several others are still fighting for life after a stabbing rampage through one of Sydney’s busiest shopping centres.
Four women and one man were killed at Westfield Bondi Junction on Saturday afternoon. Another woman, the mother of a nine-month-old baby also injured in the attack, died in hospital.
Police shot the gunman dead at the scene after he advanced on an officer with a knife.
His identity is yet to be formally confirmed but police believe he is a 40-year-old man. 7NEWS understands he is not a local.
Swathes of police descended on Westfield Bondi Junction on Saturday about 4pm on reports multiple people had been stabbed.
But it was a lone female officer who chased the knifeman through the shopping centre, tracking him to level five before firing a single fatal shot.
Assistant Commissioner Anthony Cooke said the assailant was seen on CCTV entering the shopping centre, leaving and then returning about 3.20pm.
