🚨🗣️ | Álvaro Cortés has made his intentions clear during Barcelona’s preseason work at St. George’s Park. The 21-year-old centre-back believes his time with Barça Atlètic is behind him and his main objective now is to earn a place in Hansi Flick’s first-team squad.

The young defender admitted he will respect whatever decision the club makes about his future, but his desire has always been to succeed at Barcelona. He has dreamed of staying at the club since childhood and remains fully focused on proving himself. Although he has not yet had a direct conversation with Flick, he feels confident about the coach’s trust.

Cortés describes himself as a modern defender who enjoys defending one-on-one situations while also contributing with the ball. He likes stepping forward, creating passing options, and helping in attack. His biggest references include Carles Puyol, Gerard Piqué, and Íñigo Martínez, with the latter’s performances last season leaving a strong impression on him.

He also recalled his memorable penalty against Birmingham City in preseason, where he found the top corner and surprised even himself. Cortés praised his connection with teammate Gerard Martín and said he felt comfortable during his first friendly appearance with the senior team.

Now, with the new season approaching, Cortés sees this as a huge opportunity. The young centre-back is determined to take every chance and show that he belongs at the highest level with Barcelona.

🚨🗞️ | FC Barcelona have cancelled their planned closed-door friendly against Preston North End, which was scheduled for Monday at 3:00 PM as the final activity of the team's preseason stay in England under Hansi Flick.

The decision was made after Preston informed Barça that several first-team players would be unavailable, meaning they would have to field a squad largely made up of Under-21 players. Barcelona's coaching staff felt the match would not provide the level of competition needed at this stage of preseason and decided to replace it with a regular training session instead.

The team had originally planned to return to Barcelona after the friendly. With the match now cancelled, an earlier departure from England is also being considered as preseason preparations continue.

⚠️ SOMETIMES THE BIGGEST MISTAKE ISN'T THE SIGNING. IT'S THE DECISION THAT MAKES THE SIGNING NECESSARY.

Frenkie de Jong's injury has left Barcelona short in midfield. At the same time, Marc Casadó continues to be linked with an exit, while the club is reportedly exploring a low-cost move for Moroccan international Azzedine Ounahi.

Let's be clear: this isn't about questioning Ounahi's quality.

He's technically gifted, press-resistant, and could represent excellent value in today's market.

The bigger question is whether Barcelona are planning ahead or simply reacting to circumstances.

If De Jong is sidelined, is selling Casadó really the right move before bringing in another midfielder to restore the depth you've just lost?

Casadó isn't just another squad player. He understands Barça's positional football, knows the club's demands, and has already shown he can step in when needed. Replacing an academy midfielder with an external option doesn't automatically improve the team.

If Ounahi arrives while Casadó stays, Barcelona strengthen their midfield depth.

If Ounahi arrives because Casadó leaves, the club risks creating a problem only to spend resources solving it.

The best recruitment isn't about collecting talented players.

It's about building a squad where every decision fits a long-term vision.

What's your opinion? Should Barcelona keep Casadó and sign Ounahi, or is it time to cash in and move in a different direction?

🚨✍️ | As Joan Laporta's fourth presidency moves toward its scheduled end in 2031, conversations about Barcelona's future leadership are slowly beginning to emerge. With club statutes preventing another consecutive re-election, attention is turning to what Laportismo could look like without its most recognizable figure. Following Laporta's recent health scare, from which he has thankfully recovered, several media outlets, including Culemanía, have started discussing possible succession scenarios.

Barcelona's experience in 2010 serves as a reminder that finding a successor is never straightforward. Laporta's preferred candidates gradually stepped aside, and the eventual choice, Jaume Ferrer, was defeated by Sandro Rosell. This time, several names are already being mentioned. Current vice president Rafa Yuste has publicly shown interest, while Joan Soler has also emerged as a possible candidate thanks to his growing influence and international connections. Elena Fort is another name being discussed and could become Barcelona's first female president.

Outside the current board, Gerard Piqué is attracting increasing attention. His popularity among fans, business profile, and backing from influential figures have made him one of the most talked-about long-term possibilities. Meanwhile, Víctor Font has kept a low profile despite previously challenging Laporta in the elections.

For now, though, everything remains speculative. A lot can change over the next few years, and as always at Barcelona, success on the pitch will play a huge role in shaping what comes next.

🧠⚽ MOST PEOPLE WATCHED HAMZA ABDELKARIM'S TWO GOALS.

I watched everything that happened before them. That's where Barcelona supporters should be excited.

For years, Barcelona have searched for the next great striker by looking at goals.

Against Birmingham City, Hamza Abdelkarim reminded us that the real indicator isn't how a striker finishes. It's how he arrives.

Most young forwards chase the ball. Hamza attacked the spaces defenders couldn't see.

His first goal wasn't created by individual brilliance. It came from intelligent positioning, patient timing, and an instinct to appear exactly where the danger was. His second showed another rare quality: anticipating the rebound before anyone else reacted.

These are not glamorous skills, but they are the foundation of elite goalscorers.

What impressed me even more was his off-the-ball work. He constantly occupied defenders' blind sides, synchronized his runs with the passer's body shape, and pressed aggressively when Barcelona lost possession. Those are habits Hansi Flick values as much as finishing.

Of course, one preseason match doesn't prove he is Barcelona's next great No. 9. He still needs to improve his hold-up play, aerial duels, and ability to create chances against elite defenders.

But movement, anticipation, and decision-making are qualities that usually translate across levels. They are also among the hardest traits to teach.

Barcelona don't necessarily need another false nine. They need a striker who lives inside the penalty area, stretches defences, and finishes the football others create.

Against Birmingham City, Hamza Abdelkarim didn't just score twice.

He showed the tactical habits of a modern penalty-box predator.

If he keeps developing these qualities, Barcelona may already have the foundation of their next lethal No. 9.

Movement can be coached. Instinct rarely can. Which part of Hamza's game impressed you most against Birmingham?

🚨🗞️ | Xavi Espart continues to catch the eye at FC Barcelona. The 19-year-old right-back started under Hansi Flick in Barcelona's 2-2 preseason draw against Birmingham City, playing 62 impressive minutes and showing confidence at both ends of the pitch.

One of the most encouraging aspects of his performance was how naturally he drifted into midfield during the build-up phase. Thanks to his background as a midfielder, Espart looked comfortable receiving the ball in central areas and helping control possession.

His rise hasn't come out of nowhere. He recently enjoyed an outstanding UEFA European Under-19 Championship with Spain, where he was named in the Team of the Tournament as a midfielder, highlighting his intelligence and versatility.

Espart arrived for preseason determined to make an impression, and that hard work is beginning to pay off. Despite attracting interest from other clubs, his priority remains earning his place at Barcelona, where he is already viewed as part of the club's long-term plans.

Another promising performance from a youngster who continues to take important steps toward the first team.

🧩🎯 THE HARDEST TRANSFERS AREN'T ALWAYS DECIDED BY MONEY. SOMETIMES THEY'RE DECIDED BY STRATEGY, TIMING, AND THE RELATIONSHIPS YOU BUILD... OR BREAK.

Barcelona's pursuit of Julián Álvarez has become one of the most talked-about transfer sagas of the summer.

The club made its interest public, submitted an official offer, and continued speaking confidently about the deal. Atlético Madrid responded by making one thing clear: Álvarez is not for sale.

Since then, criticism has intensified.

Some believe Barcelona made the negotiations too public, strained relations with Atlético, and put unnecessary pressure on the situation before having every aspect of the operation secured.

Others see it differently. They argue that if Atlético had already decided never to sell, no negotiation strategy or public silence would have changed the outcome.

The reality is that elite transfers are rarely decided by money alone.

They demand financial planning, patience, leverage, timing, and trust between all parties involved. Even when a player is interested, convincing the selling club is often the biggest obstacle.

Whether Julián Álvarez eventually wears the Blaugrana or not, this saga has sparked an important debate.

Did Barcelona mishandle the pursuit, or were they simply trying to sign a player that Atlético never intended to let go?

🔵🔴 What's your verdict? Did Barça make mistakes in this transfer, or is Atlético's stance the only reason the deal has stalled?⬇️

🚨✍️ | Barcelona's strategy for identifying young talent now goes far beyond La Masia. The club is actively searching for promising youngsters from around the world, with the goal of strengthening the squad while also creating long-term value in the transfer market.

The arrivals of 18-year-old Egyptian striker Hamza Abdelkarim from Al Ahly for €1.5 million and Belgian winger Jesse Bisiwu from Club Brugge for €8.5 million plus 20% of a future sale perfectly reflect that vision. Hamza has already made an immediate impact, scoring twice on his first-team debut against Birmingham and giving fans an exciting glimpse of his potential.

The idea is simple. If a player develops into first-team quality, Barcelona gain another top talent. If he performs well but doesn't quite reach that level, the club can still earn a significant transfer fee. And if things don't work out, the financial risk remains relatively small.

It's a strategy that combines sporting ambition with financial responsibility. By investing wisely in the world's brightest young talents alongside the continued development of La Masia graduates, Barcelona are building a sustainable future both on and off the pitch.

NOT EVERY STANDOUT PERFORMANCE NEEDS 90 MINUTES.

Some players make headlines with goals.

Others leave an impression through intelligence.

Against Birmingham City, Álvaro Cortés didn't have much time on the pitch, but he showed exactly why Barcelona continue to trust his development.

His composure under pressure stood out immediately. Rather than rushing his decisions, he stayed calm, opened his body before receiving the ball, and consistently chose the right option. Every touch looked purposeful.

What impressed even more was his positional awareness. Cortés constantly offered passing angles, helped Barcelona progress through the press, and understood when to carry the ball forward instead of releasing it too early.

These are the small details that often separate technically gifted players from tactically intelligent ones.

Of course, one preseason cameo isn't enough to make bold predictions. There is still plenty to improve, particularly in defensive duels and physical intensity. But the fundamentals are difficult to ignore.

Barcelona's identity has always been built on players who think quickly before they act.

Based on this performance, Álvaro Cortés looks like another player developing with those same principles.

The future isn't decided in one match.

But sometimes, you can recognize the right profile in just a few minutes.

What was your biggest takeaway from Álvaro Cortés' performance against Birmingham City? 👇
