Rumor has it that Jordan warned the US not to assassinate Syrian President Sharaa.
Jordan's King Abdullah II warned the United States not to assassinate Syria's new president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, ahead of Sharaa's meeting with Trump last week, a US senator said on Thursday.
The hostility of a section of the Trump administration towards Shara is evident from the statement made by Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen. Her tone of voice also supports a statement made by Trump. After meeting with Shara last Wednesday (May 14), Trump said, Foreign leaders have directly urged him to give Shara a chance, but his own advisors are skeptical.
"I have heard some rumors in some quarters of the administration's foreign policy that I am concerned about... there was an alternative proposal to assassinate Syria's new leader, Ahmed al-Sharaa," said Gene Shaheen at a Senate hearing last Thursday.
Shaheen said that Jordan's King Abdullah II warned Ahmed Al-Shara about the alleged plan to assassinate him after learning about it.
Senator Shaheen added, "King Abdullah told us that such a leadership change could prevent a full-blown civil war in Syria. And that would not be good for the opportunity that the country has at this moment to move forward."
