1. Past form of "have" (অতীত বোঝাতে)
👉 মানে: ছিল / খেয়েছিল / পেয়েছিল
I had a car. (আমার একটা গাড়ি ছিল)
She had breakfast at 8. (সে সকাল ৮টায় নাস্তা করেছিল)
They had a problem yesterday. (ওদের গতকাল একটা সমস্যা হয়েছিল)
2. Past Perfect Tense
👉 কাঠামো: Subject + had + V3 (Past Participle)
👉 মানে: এর আগে করেছিল / হয়ে গিয়েছিল
I had finished my homework before he came.
(সে আসার আগে আমি কাজ শেষ করেছিলাম)
She had left before I arrived.
(আমি পৌঁছানোর আগেই সে চলে গিয়েছিল)
They had gone to market when I called.
(আমি ফোন দেওয়ার সময় তারা বাজারে চলে গিয়েছিল)
3. "Had to" = বাধ্য হয়ে কিছু করা লাগল (past obligation)
👉 মানে: করতে হয়েছিল
I had to wake up early. (আমাকে তাড়াতাড়ি উঠতে হয়েছিল)
He had to help his friend. (তাকে বন্ধুকে সাহায্য করতে হয়েছিল)
We had to wait for the bus. (আমাদের বাসের জন্য অপেক্ষা করতে হয়েছিল)
4. Had better (advice / warning)
👉 মানে: ভালো হয় যদি … / উচিত
You had better study hard. (তোমার ভালো হবে যদি ভালো করে পড়)
She had better not be late. (তার দেরি না করাই ভালো হবে)
5. Idiomatic use (experience)
We had fun at the party. (আমরা পার্টিতে মজা করেছিলাম)
Did you have a good time? (ভালো সময় কাটিয়েছ কি?)
👉 সংক্ষেপে:
had = ছিল / খেয়েছিল (simple past of have)
had + V3 = Past Perfect (আগেই করেছিল)
had to = করতে হয়েছিল
had better = উচিত / ভালো হয়
