কালো গোলাপ প্রাকৃতিকভাবে তুরস্কের সানলিউরফা প্রদেশের হালফেতি অঞ্চলে ফোটে। এই গোলাপের রঙ প্রথমে গাঢ় লাল থাকে, তবে গ্রীষ্মকালে তা নিকষ কালো রঙে পরিণত হয়। হালফেতির মাটির বিশেষ গুণের জন্যই এই বিরল গোলাপ সেখানে ফোটে বলে ধারণা করা হয়।

তবে, কালো গোলাপ প্রকৃতপক্ষে সম্পূর্ণ কালো নয়; এটি অত্যন্ত গাঢ় লাল বা বেগুনি রঙের হয়, যা কালো বলে প্রতীয়মান হয়। বিশ্বের অন্যান্য স্থানে কালো গোলাপের অস্তিত্ব নেই।

বাংলাদেশে কালো গোলাপ পাওয়া যায় না। তবে, বিশেষ কোনো দিবসে শাহবাগের ফুল ব্যবসায়ীরা বিদেশ থেকে এই বিরল ও মূল্যবান ফুলটি আমদানি করে থাকেন। প্রকারভেদে একেকটি কালো গোলাপের দাম ৬-৮ হাজার টাকার মধ্যে হতে পারে।

কালো গোলাপের চাহিদা ও জনপ্রিয়তা থাকলেও, এর প্রাপ্যতা অত্যন্ত সীমিত এবং মূল্যও বেশ ।
