𝗨𝗻𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗽 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰
Starting in 2024, Instagram will be implementing several unavoidable updates to its Shop feature in its commitment to small businesses and indie creators.
The updates are being put in place to bridge the gap between shopping and social media, further enhancing the user experience and refining the commerce space on the platform. Here are the key elements of the update:
➡️ Shopping Interface: The shopping interface will undergo a complete design overhaul for a more seamless shopping experience. Users will be able to view products in a vertical scrolling format to easily find what they’re searching for.
Products will be presented in a larger format, showcasing more detail and making it easier for users to discover and buy products they love directly from the Instagram app.
➡️ Checkout Feature: Instagram will also debut its native checkout feature globally, eliminating the need for users to leave the app for a third-party website to complete a purchase.
With this feature, Instagram will retain existing customers, attract new ones, and help businesses retain customer information for future marketing efforts.
➡️ Visual AR Shopping: Augmented Reality (AR) will offer a more interactive shopping experience. Users can use AR to visualize products in their own environment before purchasing – e.g. see how a piece of furniture looks in their living room – a feature aimed at decreasing the likelihood of returns and increasing overall customer satisfaction.
➡️ Shopping via IGTV, Reels, and Live Videos: Instagram will introduce shopping functionality within IGTV, Reels, and live streams. Creators and businesses can tag products in their videos, which users can then click on and buy directly.
This feature will provide a new revenue stream for businesses and influencers, and a new shopping experience for customers.
➡️ Seller Ratings and Reviews: Seller ratings and reviews will be incorporated to help shoppers make more informed decisions but also to improve customer service. This form of social proof will build buyer's confidence and credibility for the sellers.
➡️ InstaShop Ads: Advertisers will be able to directly promote their products on Instagram Shop. These ads will appear as users browse the shop tab, creating increased visibility for businesses in the Instagram shopping space.
➡️ Personalized Shopping: Personalized product recommendations based on user’s likes, follows, and browsing history will also be a central feature in the update. This will make it easier for users to discover new products they might be interested in.
These enhancements are part of Instagram's larger objective to boost its e-commerce capabilities and offer brands a powerful platform to grow and connect with customers.
