A new milestone of pride for Bangladesh has been achieved by young researcher Marzana Akter, who has been included in the Asian Scientist 100–2026 list — a prestigious internationally recognized platform that honors outstanding researchers and scientists from across Asia.
Marzana Akter completed her MSc in Microbiology from the Department of Microbiology and Hygiene at Bangladesh Agricultural University. One of the most significant achievements of her research was the first identification of the Genotype IIIb strain of Chicken Infectious Anaemia Virus (CIAV) in poultry in Bangladesh. This discovery marked a groundbreaking advancement in the country’s poultry research sector.
In addition, in December last year, she represented Bangladesh before international researchers and policymakers in Geneva, which was a proud moment for the nation.
Since 2016, the Asian Scientist 100 list has been published annually. Inclusion in this prestigious list requires exceptional contributions to research, significant scientific discoveries, national or international recognition, or demonstrated leadership in academia and industry.
Bangladeshi women scientists also hold a distinguished history on this platform. In 2021, Firdausi Qadri and in 2023, Senjuti Saha were included in the Asian Scientist 100 list for their remarkable contributions to research and global health.
Continuing this proud legacy, Marzana Akter’s achievement has become a new source of inspiration for scientific research and women researchers in Bangladesh. This recognition of her dedication, courage, and relentless hard work has brought immense joy to her family, colleagues, and well-wishers.
