The Garo community is known for rich cultural heritage rooted in traditions, festivals, and folklore.
Wangala is a vibrant harvest celebration of the Garo community. It honors Misi Saljong, the Sun God, in gratitude for a bountiful harvest.
The festival begins with rituals like "Rugala", offering rice beer and food to the deity, and "Kakka", a cleansing ceremony. The highlight is the rhythmic beats of the Dama drums, accompanied by bamboo flutes and colorful dances performed by men and women in traditional attire. These performances symbolize unity, joy, and thanksgiving.
Wangala is more than a celebration; it preserves the cultural identity and heritage of the Garo people. Transferring these traditions to future generations is crucial to ensuring the continuity of our unique practices, stories, and values. It instills pride, a sense of belonging, and an appreciation for our roots.
We Gumsran, want to share these traditions with the world. Our ambition is to bring Garo stories to life through animations showcasing the wisdom and beauty of these tales and tradition to new generation. By embracing and sharing Garo culture, we want to honor our past and make ensure our traditions thrive for generations to come.
