সকলের কাছে প্রশ্ন ❓ ❓ ❓
আমি শুধু তাদের মায়েদের কথা ভাবি। এই যে গতকাল তফাজ্জল নামের এক মানসিকভাবে অপ্রকৃতস্থ যুবক কে ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের কিছু ছাত্র পিটিয়ে মেরে ফেলল, আমি ভাবি তফাজ্জলের মা সেটা দেখতে পেলে কি করতেন? জানলাম উনি মারা গেছেন আগেই। কিন্তু এমনও তো হতে পারে তফাজ্জলের কাছ থেকে ৩ ফুট দূরে দাঁড়িয়ে ছিলেন উনি, ছেলেকে বাঁচাতে পারছিলেন না দেখে চুড়ান্ত অসহায় বোধ করছিলেন? হয়ত ছেলেকে ভাত খেতে দেখে আশান্বিত হচ্ছিলেন যে ছেলের কিছু হবে না আর, এই যাত্রা বেঁচে যাবে? হয়ত এরপরও নির্যাতনের মাত্রা দেখে আল্লাহর কাছেই ফরিয়াদ করছিলেন ছেলেটার যেন মৃত্যু হয়, ছেলেটা যেন আর কষ্টের ভেতর দিয়ে না যায়?

আবরার ফাহাদের মায়ের কথাও ভাবি। আবরারকে যখন স্ট্যাম্প দিয়ে পেটানো হচ্ছিলো তখন তার মা পাশে থাকলে কি কষ্টটা পেতেন! বিশ্বজিতের মায়ের কথা ভাবি, ছেলেকে কোপাকুপি করার সময় সামনে থাকলে কি করতে পারতেন তিনি ছেলেকে বাঁচাতে? রাজশাহীতে নিহত ছাত্রলীগ কর্মী পঙ্গু মাসুদের কথা ভাবি যখন সে পানি চেয়েও পানি পাচ্ছিল না তখন তার মা সেখানে থাকলে কি ছেলের জন্য পানি আনতে ছুটাছুটি করতেন? নাকি সরে গেলে ছেলেকে মেরে ফেলবে এই ভয়ে পানিও আনতে যেতেন না?

আমি শুধু সেইসব মায়েদের কথা ভাবি। যারা ৯ মাস গর্ভে ধারণ করা থেকে সন্তান জন্ম দিয়ে তার পুরোটা জীবন সেই সন্তানকে লালন পালন করে, বড় করে একদিন জানতে পারেন তার ছেলেকে বা মেয়েকে কেউ মেরে ফেলেছে। কি যায় তাদের ভেতর দিয়ে সেটা ভাবি। তল পাই না। অন্ধকার লাগে সব।

আমি আমার মায়ের কথা ভাবি। ভাবি আমাকেও যদি কেউ এভাবে দলবেঁধে মেরে ফেলে তাহলে আমার মায়ের কেমন লাগবে? কেমন অসহায় বোধ করবে সে?

A participatory seminar on higher education, employment and scholarship in France was held at the Rajshahi University (RU) here today.

Institute of English and other languages of the university organized the seminar at the lecture gallery of the Engineering Faculty discussing and devising the ways and means on how to expand the sector.

Pro-vice-chancellors Prof Sultan-Ul-Islam and Prof Humayun Kabir and Treasurer Prof Obayedur Rahman Pramanik addressed the seminar as resource persons with Director of the institute Prof Qabdullah Al Mamun in the chair.

Cultural Attaché of the France Embassy in Dhaka Yoyan Zigarel and Campus Manager of France Bangladesh Syeda Nasiba Hossain addressed the meeting as focal persons.

In his remarks, Prof Sultan-Ul-Islam said France is one of the largest countries in the field of scholarship, higher education and employment and the RU students and researchers can avail the scopes there.

Both sides talked about how to boost cooperation towards the educational fields of RU, particularly the social science and fine arts.

Various other cooperation issues, including exchange of teachers, students and researchers, conducting higher education related research, arranging speeches and book publication, were discussed elaborately.

Liton vows to expand city areas to 350 square km if wins in RCC mayoral election

AHM Khairuzzaman Liton is intended to expand the city areas to 350 square kilometers from the existing 96 square kilometer if elected in the upcoming mayoral election of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) again.

“If reelected, I want to ensure modern civic facilities through construction of widened roads, improved drainage, decorative street light, parks, schools, colleges, graveyards and Eidgah in the expanded areas,” he added.

Khairuzzaman Liton came up with the assurance while sharing views with cross-sections of people coming from Charghat and Bagha upazilas at the conference hall of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industries (RCCI) today.

Liton, who is a presidium member of Bangladesh Awami League, is contesting in the RCC mayoral election scheduled to be held on June 21 after getting nomination from his party.

In addition to generating employment opportunities for around 50,000 people, Liton has planned to reclaim around 12 square kilometres of char land of Padma River for developing a river city adjacent to the city protection embankment.

As the river’s main flow turned towards its right bank, the river city might be built on the left bank.

Liton said the part of the river near the left bank, where flood water remains for less than a month every year, would be turned into a huge lake.

The lake would stand between the satellite town and the city protection embankment and there would be a bridge to the newly developed city, he added.

“Rajshahi would be beautiful if we can properly execute the plan,” Liton said, adding that the city’s accommodation problems will be eased as well.

Liton told the journalists five more flyovers will be constructed for the overall development of the metropolis by freeing it from traffic congestion.

The flyovers will be constructed on Haragram Natunpara Railway Crossing, Rajshahi Court Station Railway Crossing, Bilsimla Railway Crossing, Shaheed AHM Kamaruzzaman Railway Crossing, Bhadra Railway Crossing and Mohanpur Railway Crossing.

Earlier, the city corporation constructed two flyovers for the first time in Rajshahi city.

Various other development works are being implemented as part of RCC’s Taka 2,993-crore project titled ‘Integrated Urban Infrastructure Development in Rajshahi City’ at present.

Many of those have become visible which are being acclaimed by people of both home and abroad.

He has plans for establishing an agricultural university, more standard schools and colleges along with turning the city into a tourism one to attract more tourists.

Creation of job opportunities issue will get priority through establishing small and medium enterprises during his next mayoral term, Liton added

RCC election will be a model in the country, says ETI DG

Director General (DG) of Election Training Institute (ETI) SM Asaduzzaman said the upcoming election to Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) will be a model in the country.

To this end, the Election Commission (EC) has been taking all sorts of necessary preparations as it’s intended to hold a free, fair, perfect and acceptable election. Since taking responsibility, the present EC has held all the elections proper and credible.

ETI DG made the observation while inaugurating a six-day training workshop on polling in Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) for the election officials here on Monday.

A total of 155 presiding officers, 1,155 assistant presiding officers and 2,306 polling officers are taking part in the workshop in different batches that will end on June 17.

SM Asaduzzaman said the EVM is an easy technology for polling and there is fear about it. The RCC election will be held using EVM. It’s not a complex matter. So, do not spread rumors about the EVM.

He also said the regional election office has been organizing various motivational and cultural programmes in the communities for familiarizing the EVM to the voters.

ETI DG Asaduzzaman said they are giving time-fitting training to the election officials so that they can conduct polling in EVM correctly side by side with the voters and cast votes properly.

Regional Election Officer and Returning Officer of RCC election Delwar Hossain and district election officer Abul Hossain also spoke on the occasion.

Four candidates, including RCC former Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, are now in the election race for mayoral post, while 111 for councilors in 30 wards.

There are 3,51,982 voters to exercise their right of franchise in EVM in 155 polling centres in 30 wards from 8am to 4pm scheduled to be held on June 21.

Missing students’ body recovered from Rajshahi Padma River

Bodies of two missing college students were recovered from the River Padma today.

A divers’ team of Fire Service and Civil Defense (FSCD) recovered the bodies from Shrirampur area this noon.

Wahidul Islam, Deputy Director of FSCD, said the deceased students were identified as Golam Sarwar Sayem, 17, son of Saidur Rahman and Rifat Khandaker, 18, son of late Khaza Moin Uddin, residents of the city’s Meherchandi area.

They were the HSC first year students of Rajshahi Cantonment Public School and College (RCPSC).

He said four RCPSC students went to the river for bathing at around 11 am on Saturday. At one stage, they went into deep water and Sarwar and Rifat drowned as they didn’t know how to swim.

Being informed by local people, the FSCD divers conducted drives to rescue the students but couldn’t be successful till yesterday evening, said the official.
