SRCC (Snake Rescue & Conservation Centre): Pioneering Snake Conservation in Bangladesh
SRCC is the first organisation of its kind in Bangladesh, dedicated to rescuing and conserving snakes while promoting awareness about their ecological importance. Borhan Biswas Romon in Dhormohata village, Paba, Rajshahi, it evolved into Snake Rescue and Conservation Centre (SRCC) in 2010, with Sharker Shams Bi
n Sharif and Asif Faisal Shakik joining as key members. This non-profit organisation has rescued over 21,000 snakes from homes and poachers. Snakes are housed in a scientifically designed environment, cared for until they can be safely released back into the wild. SRCC has also achieved a groundbreaking milestone: it is the first programme in Bangladesh to successfully breed cobras in captivity, boasting a success rate of 97%.
Awareness and Impact
SRCC’s snake bite treatment and awareness programmes have profoundly impacted communities across Bangladesh. These initiatives have:
- Saved countless human lives by educating people on snakebite prevention and treatment.
- Encouraged communities to call SRCC instead of killing snakes, ensuring the safety of both humans and snakes.
- Reduced snakebite deaths in Paba Upazila from 15–20 per month to almost zero in recent years. SRCC has also fostered grassroots movements, training small groups in villages to run their own awareness programmes. Educational visits to schools and colleges across the country have transformed public perception, highlighting snakes' vital role in maintaining ecological balance.
 Get Involved
SRCC invites you to become part of this mission:
- Join the Snake Study Club with a one-time fee of 500 BDT (7 USD) to learn about snakes first-hand.
- Support our efforts through donations to help sustain this vital programme, which is expensive yet essential due to Bangladesh's limited protected forests.
Why Support SRCC? Without SRCC, there is no organised effort to rescue or conserve snakes in Bangladesh. Your support can help save wildlife, protect biodiversity, and create a better world for both humans and nature. Advocate . Together, we can create a better world for humans and wildlife alike.
