"আফ্রিকান হাতির দুধে 62% অ্যালকোহল পাওয়া যায় ; বিষয়টি কী সত্যি নাকি কেবলই মিথ !!! "
চলুন জেনে নিই -
হাতিরা আখ এবং অন্যান্য ফলমূল খেতে পছন্দ করে, এবং সেগুলোতে প্রচুর শর্করা (sugar) থাকে। কিছু ফল এবং গাছপালার মধ্যে স্বাভাবিক গাঁজন (fermentation) প্রক্রিয়ার মাধ্যমে ইথানল তৈরি হতে পারে। বন্যপ্রাণীরা মাঝে মাঝে এই ধরনের গাঁজনজাত ফল খেয়ে মৃদু মাত্রায় মদ্যপানের মতো আচরণও করতে পারে।
তবে:
১. হাতির শরীরে ইথানল তৈরি হওয়া: হাতির পাচনতন্ত্র অনেক শক্তিশালী এবং জটিল। যদিও কিছু গাঁজন হতে পারে, তা সাধারণত অল্প পরিমাণে হয়। এর ফলে শরীরে সামান্য ইথানল উৎপন্ন হতে পারে, কিন্তু সেটা বিপজ্জনক মাত্রার কাছেও যায় না।
এবং যেই অ্যালকোহল তৈরি হয় তা তার পাকস্থলীতেই হজম হয়ে যায়।
2. দুধে ইথানল পাওয়া: হাতির শরীরে গাঁজনের মাধ্যমে উৎপন্ন ইথানল রক্তপ্রবাহে মিশে যায়, কিন্তু সেটা দুধের মাধ্যমে নির্গত হওয়ার কোনো প্রমাণ নেই। স্তন্যপায়ী প্রাণীদের ক্ষেত্রে মাতার খাদ্যাভ্যাসের প্রভাব দুধের গঠনেও পড়তে পারে, তবে অ্যালকোহল দুধে মিশে যাওয়া অসম্ভব।
3. ৬২% অ্যালকোহল: এই সংখ্যাটি অত্যন্ত অবাস্তব। সাধারণ মদের অ্যালকোহলের মাত্রা সাধারণত ১২-৪০% হয়, আর ৬২% অ্যালকোহল বিশুদ্ধ স্পিরিট বা হাই-প্রুফ মদের সমান। স্বাভাবিক শারীরবৃত্তীয় প্রক্রিয়ায় এমন উচ্চমাত্রার অ্যালকোহল তৈরি হওয়া অসম্ভব।
এ কারণে, হাতির দুধে ৬২% অ্যালকোহল থাকার দাবিটি বিজ্ঞানের দৃষ্টিতে ভিত্তিহীন।

2.Elephant milk can be destablised by alcohol:
Elephant's milk is quite unique and has some very special characteristics. You will be surprised to know that a female elephant’s milk can be destablised by alcohol, as claimed by a research. The rich diet of sugarcane may have some connection with it. On an average an elephant eats 150 kgs of food per day. With such massive consumption, the milk produced by the animal is dense in nutrients and hence it cannot be digested and absorbed by the human gut.

3.The milk formula of the African elephant :
Analyses have been made of milk collected from thirty wild African elephants immediately after they were shot. 2. The milk contained an average of 5.1% protein, 9.3% fat and 3.6% lactose. The concentration of lactose decreased and the concentration of protein and fat increased with advancing lactation. Inorganic constituents were present in approximately the same proportions as in bovine milk. 3. The contribution of capric acid to the total fatty acids, previously shown to be extremely high, increased with advancing lactation. 4. The significance of these findings to the preparation of a milk for rearing young elephants by hand is discussed.
